Pastor Chuck Baldwin: Romans 13 Revisited

From: News with Views

It seems that every time someone such as myself attempts to encourage our Christian brothers and sisters to resist an unconstitutional or otherwise reprehensible government policy, we hear the retort, “What about Romans Chapter 13? We Christians must submit to government. Any government. Read your Bible, and leave me alone,” or words to that effect.

No doubt, some who use this argument are sincere. They are only repeating what they have heard their pastor and other religious leaders say. On the other hand, let’s be honest enough to admit that some who use this argument are just plain lazy, apathetic, and indifferent. And Romans 13 is their escape from responsibility. I suspect this is the much larger group, by the way.

Nevertheless, for the benefit of those who are sincere (but obviously misinformed), let’s briefly examine Romans Chapter 13. I quote Romans Chapter 13, verses 1 through 7, from the Authorized King James text:

“Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God. Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation. For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the evil. Wilt thou then not be afraid of the power? do that which is good, and thou shalt have praise of the same: For he is the minister of God to thee for good. But if thou do that which is evil, be afraid; for he beareth not the sword in vain: for he is the minister of God, a revenger to execute wrath upon him that doeth evil. Wherefore ye must needs be subject, not only for wrath, but also for conscience sake. For this cause pay ye tribute also: for they are God’s ministers, attending continually upon this very thing. Render therefore to all their dues: tribute to whom tribute is due; custom to whom custom; fear to whom fear; honour to whom honour.”

Do our Christian friends who use these verses to teach that we should not oppose any political leader really believe that civil magistrates have unlimited authority to do anything they want without opposition? I doubt that they truly believe that.

For example, what if our President decided to resurrect the old monarchal custom of Jus Primae Noctis (Law of First Night)? That was the old medieval custom when the king claimed the right to sleep with a subject’s bride on the first night of their marriage. Would our sincere Christian brethren sheepishly say, “Romans Chapter 13 says we must submit to the government”? I think not. And would any of us respect any man who would submit to such a law? I wouldn’t.

So, there are limits to authority. A father has authority in his home, but does this give him power to abuse his wife and children? Of course not. An employer has authority on the job, but does this give him power to control the private lives of his employees? No. A pastor has overseer authority in the church, but does this give him power to tell employers in his church how to run their businesses? Of course not. All human authority is limited in nature. No man has unlimited authority over the lives of other men. Lordship and Sovereignty is the exclusive domain of Jesus Christ.

By the same token, a civil magistrate has authority in civil matters, but his authority is limited and defined. Observe that Romans Chapter 13 clearly limits the authority of civil government by strictly defining its purpose: “For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the evil . . . For he is the minister of God to thee for good . . . for he is the minister of God, a revenger to execute wrath upon him that doeth evil.”

Notice that civil government must not be a “terror to good works.” It has no power or authority to terrorize good works or good people. God never gave it that authority. And any government that oversteps that divine boundary has no divine authority or protection.

Civil government is a “minister of God to thee for good.” It is a not a minister of God for evil. Civil magistrates have a divine duty to “execute wrath upon him that doeth evil.” They have no authority to execute wrath upon him that doeth good. None. Zilch. Zero. And anyone who says they do is lying. So, even in the midst of telling Christians to submit to civil authority, Romans Chapter 13 limits the power and reach of civil authority. […]

Remember, too, that we are all subject to Natural Law. No human authority has the right to demand that men surrender their submission to God’s law “written in their hearts.” When any human authority attempts to do this, it becomes tyrannical, because, again, it challenges the Lordship and Sovereignty of man’s Creator.

As William Blackstone (as studied and devoted a Christian scholar as there ever was) wrote, “This law of nature, being co-eval with mankind and dictated by God himself, is of course superior in obligation to any other. It is binding over all the globe, in all countries, and at all times: no human laws are of any validity, if contrary to this; and such of them as are valid derive all their force, and all their authority, mediately or immediately, from this original.” (Source: William Blackstone, “Of The Nature of Laws in General”) […]

Beyond that, we in the United States of America do not live under a monarchy. We have no king. There is no single governing official in this country. America’s “supreme Law” does not rest with any man or any group of men. America’s “supreme Law” does not rest with the President, the Congress, or even the Supreme Court. In America, the U.S. Constitution is the “supreme Law of the Land.” Under our laws, every governing official publicly promises to submit to the Constitution of the United States. Do readers understand the significance of this distinction? […]

Furthermore, Christians, above all people, should desire that their elected representatives submit to the Constitution, because it is constitutional government that has done more to protect Christian liberty than any governing document ever devised by man. As I have noted before in this column, Biblical principles form the foundation of all three of America’s founding documents: the Declaration of Independence, the U.S. Constitution, and the Bill of Rights.

See: “Bible Inspired America’s Founding Documents

In addition, if Christians (and others) had been properly obedient to the Constitution (and Romans 13), they would also have submitted to the Tenth Amendment of the U.S. Constitution, which recognizes the authority of the States in matters not specifically ceded to the federal government. In other words, the Constitution intended that the authority of the federal government be small and limited, with most authority residing within the States and among the people themselves.

Pastor Chuck Baldwin: What Every Christian Should Know About The New World Order

From: News with Views

I am amazed at how ignorant and seemingly unconcerned many of my Christian brethren appear regarding the very real threat to our liberties that a burgeoning New World Order presents. I have previously written two columns on this subject that I trust all my readers will share with their pastors and fellow churchmen (along with others, of course). See the columns here and here.

After writing the above columns, I proceeded to preach a full-length sermon entitled “What Every Christian Should Know About The New World Order.” I am happy to report that this sermon is now available as an online video. It can be viewed free of charge by going here.

Furthermore, the video may be purchased as a DVD or audio CD. Instructions for purchasing this sermon are plainly given on the above web page. These would make excellent gifts to pastors and Christians, by the way. In fact, some people have already ordered them in bulk for just that purpose.

In addition, if readers want to purchase audio MP3 files or Windows Media Video files for immediate download, this may also be done by going to the abovementioned web page.

It is critical that God’s people begin waking up to this very serious and dangerous threat. After all, “judgment must begin at the house of God.”

My Dream: The Name of the Antichrist Revealed? — Joe Biden??

First, a Disclaimer:
I’m not an end-times buff who has spent much time trying to decipher the symbology in Daniel and Revelation. I’ve always thought that in time, the pieces will fall together. God will reveal what we need to know, and that spending too much time trying to figure this puzzle out on our own can actually be a diversion from what to me is most important:

How do we live in Christ so we’ll be ready no matter what happens? What is real Christianity, individually and collectively? How can ONE happen (Jesus’ heart-cry/prayer for us in John 17)? And what is keeping ONE from happening? This is my passion.

So I rarely think about who the Antichrist will be. I don’t even remember asking God for wisdom as to who this person is. So this dream was quite a surprise.
Also, almost a month has passed, and I just yesterday decided to post this. First of all, the name I heard in the dream isn’t a person whom I had ever heard attributed to as possibly being the Antichrist. He doesn’t seem to fit the profile of what I had imagined. So I was skeptical, and still am (see comment #6, below), but less so after last night.

When I mentioned this name to a friend, last night, he wasn’t as surprised. He pointed out that this person is strategically placed, right now, and quickly could be in a position from which to rule and reign. People seem to be looking for a savior in a man, currently, and perhaps this man will appear to have the supernatural solutions to solve the world’s deep crisis.

So I want to be clear that I’m not saying this person is or will be the Antichrist, prophesied in Revelation. But Peter quoted Joel at Pentecost (the day the Holy Spirit was given to lead us into all truth), saying in Acts 2:

“It will be in the last days, says God, that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh. Your sons and your daughters will prophesy. Your young men will see visions. Your old men will dream dreams.”

I’m 51-years-old now, so I qualify, age-wise (though young people can definitely get dreams from the Holy Spirit too), and I’m thinking that maybe it’s time that God wants to tell us who the Antichrist will be, so we can prepare.

Jim Feeney: Why Speak in Tongues? — Is speaking in tongues for everyone?

“It was Jesus Himself who initiated the subject of speaking in tongues in the New Testament. He said that it would be a “sign” that would accompany believers as they went into all the world and preached the Gospel of Jesus Christ.”

[Acts 19:1-6] is a third clear instance in the book of Acts — along with Acts 2 and Acts 10 … — where believers received the baptism with the Spirit and spoke in tongues.”

‘Let Us Be ONE’ Prophecy Continues 10/8/08: "It’s too late to reverse what’s been done for my men have been rejected … Now is the time to overcome and get right with all … Your heart will swell with love and it will be easy to remain in Me when others are on the boat with you"

[UPDATE] My thoughts, five years later, September, 2013:

The timing of this is still very interesting to me. I heard this prophecy on October 10, 2008. Only four months earlier in June, the evangelicals overwhelmingly chose warmonger and pro-choice John McCain over the peacemaker and pro-rule-of-law-Constitutionalist Ron Paul, who believes we really are supposed to love our neighbors as ourselves, from those still in the womb to our so-called ‘enemies’ overseas — everyone — as Jesus taught. War should always be the very last resort: “not by might, nor by power, but by My Spirit, says the Lord.” We should draw near to God and He will draw near to US, giving us wisdom as to what to do. Jesus said: “blessed are the PEACEMAKERS, for they shall be called CHILDREN OF GOD.” The evangelicals supported the Bush/Cheney wars and torture without question, as they gutted our Constitution, turning us into the police state that is ever increasing. Even our news and media is largely controlled. But most evangelicals still won’t investigate what really happened on 9/11, which is shocking to me. Why not pull back the curtain and see reality the way it really is? What are we waiting for?

When I saw the evangelicals in South Carolina boo Ron Paul in January 2012 for saying we should go by the Golden Rule, it was even more clear that America is finished. We have lost our soul, and by the time we get it back, Satan’s plans will be so advanced, because many evangelicals actually voted for evil, led by the pastors who aren’t abiding in Christ enough to lead the people into actually doing the greatest two commandments, without which we can’t be real, overcoming Christians.

So I still follow what is really going on politically at my other site and on Facebook, but ‘ONE’ happening is my passion. ‘ONE’ is Jesus passion, which He stated in John 17 — “that the world will know.” When ‘ONE’ happens, we’ll be able to rest in Him with each other no matter what happens. And we better tune into God as to where to live and what to do next, because serious judgment is coming on America.

Pride comes before destruction, and an arrogant spirit before a fall.”  – Proverbs 16:18

We could have easily avoided this disaster. All it would have taken was for one church to really walk in love, as the Holy Spirit was trying to help them do. But they wouldn’t listen to those of us who had clear words of insight and correction, like this one that I gave to a pastor way back in 1990, which still applies today:

My 1990 Key-to-Revival Prophecy: “There is might and there is power and there is glory, but it is being withheld until these relationships are made right, until we love our brother enough to…”

Pastors had the template. They knew exactly what they were supposed to do. This 1990 prophecy, above is just one of many. And then instead of obeying, they introduced seeker services and man-made programs, and once-saved-always-saved.
So all these years later: let’s get this thing started. If we build it He will come. And we will be so happy in Christ!!!

And we can’t stop the end of America, now, but we can postpone what’s coming.
This is what happened. The church opened the sin gate, letting the demons in, shut their ears to God’s voice, leaving the sin gate open, pacified by the once-saved-always-saved false doctrine.

The Red Gate Prophecy — What If I Open It Just a Little Bit? The believers, not the non-believers, have opened the gate to sin, which is why this country has deteriorated

Ephesians 4:11-16 — we can still do it!!! It should be front and center, along with Jesus’ prayer of ‘ONE’ happening in John 17, and the greatest two commandments — with the greatest being the greatest.
Jesus wants to be head of His church. Will we let Him?
Then “our hearts will swell with love…!”

God’s Remedy for James-3 Cursing & Partysville in Today’s Church is James 4 — Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts. Let your laughter be turned to mourning… Humble yourselves and He will exalt you!

Let Us Be ONE, Part 34 of 34

I received this prophecy totally unexpectedly while responding to this comment by Maria in New Zealand.

I did my best to only write what I was hearing. There was only one line in the word that I consciously stumbled at, so I removed it here (marked by *). For those interested, it’s still in the original, which I left completely alone except for formatting.

This prophecy is the main reason I believe conditions will only get worse in America, that it’s too late to reverse America’s collapse. There was a season when we could have reversed what is to come, God says. But the people He sent to warn us ‘Christians’ have been rejected. So now it’s time to focus on becoming ONE with each other, under God (Jesus’ heart-cry for us in John 17)— to no longer do our own thing, the Holy Spirit says in this prophecy.

In Christ and right with each other, we can soar, no matter how bad things get in the natural:

It doesn’t matter what the stock market will do, for holiness will abound and you will be ONE, living together, helping one another through the difficult times ahead.

It’s too late to reverse what’s been done, for My men have been rejected. There was a season.

Now is the time to overcome and get right with all those around, so you can be holy and set apart.

FORGIVENESS will reign from your hearts, and we will be together, embracing for eternity. You in Me and I in you. It should always be this way: resting, relaxed, righteousness ABOUNDINGyour hearts GLAD! …

Your heart will swell with love, and it will be easy to remain in Me when others are on the BOAT with you.

Interestingly, the Holy Spirit uses the word ‘boat’ 8 times in this prophecy (which I capitalize, because i find this so unique). And anyone who knows me, knows that I’m a pretty straight forward thinker who rarely uses vivid imagery and metaphors in the way I write and speak. Poetry class was extremely hard for me, but here, nautical imagery flows easily from God.

It started with me writing this to Maria on Oct. 8, 2008:

The story behind the story;
the news behind the news

Alex Jones:

“What’s happening, in your expert analysis, with the economy right now, with their attack program, and why are they [the globalists] now emerging and announcing everything we’ve warned people about for decades? What does it mean that they’re now going public?

Dr. Stanley Monteith:

“Well, I think that they feel that the American people, their minds are so controlled, they really will not be able to connect the dots. But your job and my job is to help them connect the dots.

Their ultimate goal is a one-world government, a one-world economic system with a one-world currency,

BUT, what everybody’s missed is the one-world religion. And this is really what it’s all about. Because there are powerful, spiritual forces at work behind this whole movement for a one-world government.

Chuck Baldwin: Christians Use [Bible] Prophecy To Excuse Laziness

From: News with Views

Chuck Baldwin is Founder-Pastor of Crossroads Baptist Church in Pensacola, Florida.

In response to my two previous columns regarding the current development of a devilish New World Order [A Very Real New World Order and More on the New World Order], many professing Christians wrote me with comments to the effect that we should not be concerned about whatever global tyranny may be developing, because “it’s all a part of God’s plan,” or “Jesus is coming soon,” and similar statements. I, too, believe in the imminent return of Jesus Christ to earth. But, then again, so did Christians from every generation over the last two millennia. In fact, the Apostle Paul was looking for the return of Christ while he lived (Philippians 3:20). But does anticipation of Christ’s Second Coming excuse personal neglect, indifference, and downright laziness? Of course not. …

It is extremely difficult for me to reconcile the apathy and slave-like mentality that seems to permeate modern Christendom (in America) with both our own heritage and the very Word of God. For example, the Apostle Paul is very clear when he writes that a Christian must never “do evil, that good may come” (Romans 3:8). Yet, that is exactly what many, if not most, Christians are doing today. [And Satan’s New World Order agenda is NOT God’s will. Because the Bible predicts it will happen doesn’t mean God wants it to – ed.]

When confronted with an obvious evil (a burgeoning tyrannical New World Order, not to mention a number of lesser evils), modern Christians will shrug and glibly say, “It’s God’s will; we must not oppose it,” or words to that effect. This attitude says, “I will tolerate or even condone evil in order to hasten Christ’s return.”

In the first place, no one knows when Christ will return…. …only God knows….

Millions of Christians across America are trying to play God. They talk as if they know when Christ will come. It’s actually worse than that. They have the attitude that they have no personal responsibility to defend freedom and resist despotism. They seem to look at God as some kind of glorified fireman, who is obligated to rush in at the last minute to rescue them from a burning fire–a fire that they helped ignite, or at least, refused to put out themselves when they had the opportunity to do so. It’s the old, God would not let that happen in America” syndrome.

How arrogant can we be? Ask believers from despotic regimes around the world what they think about God letting tribulation come, and they will quickly tell you, “We are already in tribulation.” Are Christians in the United States really that arrogant as to believe that God loves them more than He loves believers in other countries? If not, can we not see that if believers around the world have suffered (and still suffer) the heavy hand of tyranny and oppression, it is certainly possible for tyranny and oppression to come to our land? The fact is, the only reason that Christians in America have not (for the most part) suffered tyranny and oppression is because of the hard work and sacrifice of our forefathers. We are simply enjoying the fruit of their labor.

In the second place, how do we know what God would do, if we only had the backbone to do our duty? How do we know that God would not give America “a new birth of freedom” for our children and grandchildren, if we only had the courage and fortitude to oppose the evil being thrust upon us by these would-be tyrants? America is only the “land of the free,” because it was the “home of the brave.” Take away the latter and we lose the former. And that is exactly what is currently happening.

In the third place, Christians have a moral imperative to resist evil, even if their efforts are fruitless. We are not responsible for outcome, only effort. Believers throughout history acted on principle, leaving the results with God. (Read Hebrews chapter 11.) Some were delivered; some were not. That did not matter. What mattered was doing one’s duty. …

I believe the real reason why so many professing Christians are so apathetic and indifferent to what is happening has nothing to do with the teachings of Scripture, Bible doctrine, eschatology, or anything of the like. It has everything to do with old-fashioned laziness. Today’s average Christian just flat does not want to be bothered. He has a comfortable house, an easy chair, television, and a set of golf clubs in the closet. He takes two or three weeks’ vacation every year, goes to church on Sunday (a church that does not intrude on his comfort zone, of course), pays taxes, and votes for his favorite “pro-life” Republican candidate every two years, and assumes that he is a “good” Christian and “patriotic” American. He is neither!

A real Christian patriot would never allow his country to be taken over by a gaggle of elitist goons bent on stealing his liberties–including his religious liberties–without doing everything in his power to prevent it. A real Christian patriot is active, alert, engaged, zealous, and committed to preserving liberty. …

Tell me again that “there is nothing we can do about it,” or “it’s God’s will,” or “Jesus is coming soon.” Better yet, tell it again to the suffering Christians around the world; tell it again to our Christian forebears; tell it again to your children and grandchildren who are going to inherit a land of tyranny and oppression, all because you were too lazy to resist.

I know unbelievers who have more character and determination about preserving liberty than many who call themselves Christians. And I have a ton more respect for them, too. Our Lord told us, “For unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall be much required” (Luke 12:48). Yes, Christians in America have been given the best of both worlds, and many do not even appreciate it enough to see to it that their own children–their own flesh and blood–will live to enjoy the same blessings. They are pathetic!
