SPIRITUAL AWAKENING: The Only Thing That Will Save Us
– by J. Lee Grady.

We can learn an important lesson from the East African Revival, which transformed a region 80 years ago.

The people of Uganda call it Balokole. In the Luganda language it means “the saved ones,” but the word became synonymous with the East African Revival˜one of the most significant Christian movements in modern history.

This revival had humble beginnings in September 1929, just before America’s Great Depression. Historians trace it to a prayer meeting on Namirembe Hill in Kampala, Uganda, where a missionary to Rwanda, Joe Church, prayed and read the Bible for two days with his friend Simeoni Nsibambi. They felt God had showed them that the African church was powerless because of a lack of personal holiness.

It is impossible to explain exactly what happened after this prayer meeting or how the resulting spiritual fervor spread. When God comes, unusual things happen. Within weeks after the Rev. Church returned to Gahini, Rwanda, Christians gathered to pray and confess their sins openly. A heavy spirit of conviction fell on the people. Whenever they repented for their sins and failures they would weep uncontrollably, ask others to forgive them and pledge to make restitution.

The weeping spread to farmlands and open fields. Unbelievers who visited these gatherings were converted after they witnessed the sincerity of the Christians. Repentance went deep. Husbands publicly apologized for adultery and farmers repented for stealing cows from each other. Eventually, as the revival spread from Rwanda to Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania and Burundi, even the centuries-old tradition of polygamy (which was still common among professing Christians) was unraveled in some areas.

Balokole changed African Christianity forever. In a 1986 article for Christian History, Michael Harper writes of the revival: “It’s effects have been more lasting than almost any other revival in history, so that today there is hardly a single Protestant leader in East Africa who has not been touched by it in some way.”

I spent the past two weeks ministering in Uganda and Kenya, and everywhere I went I met people who still talk about the East African Revival˜80 years after it began. It breathed resurrection power into dead, traditional churches and triggered aggressive church-planting movements that affected a variety of denominations.

Whether sermons were delivered from pulpits or under trees, six important themes were emphasized in those days: 1) the blood of Jesus; 2) the name of Jesus; 3) the cross of Jesus; 4) the Word of God; 5) the testimony of the saints; and 6) the anointing of the Holy Spirit.

Leaders also stressed the message of 1 John 6-7: “If we say that we have fellowship with Him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth; but if we walk in the light as He Himself is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His son cleanses us from all sin (NASB).” As was true in other spiritual awakenings in history (such as the Asbury Revival in Kentucky in 1970), people stood in front of each other and admitted their sins, no matter how embarrassing. The honesty cut deep into human pride and dealt a fatal blow against entrenched sin and religious hypocrisy.

After hearing more details about the East African Revival while I was in Uganda last week, I was convinced that this type of movement is the only thing that will pull the United States out of its current despair.

We must have a spiritual awakening, or we die. Political engineering, economic policies, government bailouts and stimulus packages will not save us. No politician, Democrat or Republican, will reverse our course toward destruction.

Our only hope is that a backslidden American church˜a church that is as smug, blind and lukewarm as the Laodiceans-˜will “be zealous and repent” (see Rev. 3:19).

What encourages me is that God, not man, initiated all the spiritual awakenings of the past˜including the First Great Awakening, which gave our country its historic Christian identity. Yes, we play our feeble part by praying, and we must storm heaven. Yes, awakenings come in response to our weak attempts to repent, and we must passionately seek a fresh baptism of holiness.

But we cannot manufacture revivals. [I disagree. God has been manufacturing a permanent revival for decades but the church refuses to be Holy Spirit led. God won’t make us repent and get right with those who have been hurt. He won’t make us follow Him. The Holy Spirit has been actively calling us to repent for decades. I know, because I have been one of those whom God has tried to speak through, and the resistance has been shockingly powerfully active and fierce, especially from church leaders. See my ‘Christians’ Cursing People Posts. The James-3 cursing is done mostly in secret (continuing to this day), but I’ve also been accused of being divisive while pleading for unity — Jesus’ heart-cry for us to be ‘ONE’ in Himself (John 17). At one point, I got so frustrated that I wasn’t spirit-led either. I ended up saying too much to those who would listen and had to apologize. The point is that God has wanted real Christianity throughout the church age, and perhaps a real revival 10 or 20 years ago (even just five) would have averted what is soon coming to our once-great nation. But it’s not too late to save ourselves spiritually, and maybe even then to some extent physically – editor, Jeff Fenske] Pentecostal fire comes from heaven alone. It is a sovereign blessing from a God who loves us and desires to rescue us from ourselves. We charismatics have generated a lot of our own sound and fury in the past 30 years, but much of what we have created is a shameful substitute for revival. We must become desperate for the real thing.

Today our movement is mired in the shallow waters of self-centered, carnal Christianity. May God mercifully send us our own version of Balokole. May gut-wrenching repentance and public confession of sin interrupt our trendy worship services. May this holy fire spread until the people of the United States see genuine Christians living the message we preach.

This is what I call elsewhere in this blog, partysville, a put-on joy of the Lord, complete with fake smiles, “hah, hah, hah,” but inwardly there can be even hate and control, for which James 4 is the remedy: The Remedy for James-3 Cursing & Partysville in Today’s Church is James 4.
When people are right with God and their neighbors, when we’ve truly entered into His rest, the presence of God can be tangibly felt. Love comes from within, from the Holy Spirit. The joy of the Lord is natural, not manufactured by man. There’s no hype, just people resting in God, right with each other.
Then pastors [most pastors today are con-men (confidence-men) — con-artists] won’t have to say: “that was great worship.” It will be obvious to everyone that it really was. And the presence of God won’t stop when the music stops — all resting in God, right with each other.
“Then the world will know,” Jesus said in John 17 — instead of “THE SHOW must go on.”

From: acidri’s blog

“The show must go on” is a well-known phrase in show business, meaning that regardless of what happens (such as the lead performer breaking a leg), the show must still be put on for the waiting patrons. The other day a church invited teenagers to come to church and play a game Halo3 with the hope that they would in so doing meet Christ. This is the modern day evangelism, connection with the youth as it is. Another church was offering Wii game consoles to any body who accepted Jesus into their hearts.

Is it possible that in the last days there will come times of difficulty? People will be lovers of self… lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having the appearance of godliness, but denying its power? [Whatever] happened to the power of the gospel? Does Christ have to be disguised to a point where we use sleight of hand? Is this the level to which friendship evangelism has fallen?

When love begins to sicken and decay it uses an enforced ceremony. [Julius Caesar]-William Shakespeare

Many great men of God in the Bible kept the show going. Putting on an [outward] façade that all was going well despite having long lost the anointing. So take heed. Samson lost his hair, the symbol of his anointing while he slept and woke up saying, “I will go out as at other times and shake myself free.” But he did not know that the Lord had left him. Too many programmes and activities do not mean growth. Counterfeits and hypocrites cast the same shadow of deception. Sometimes a deception can bring in many converts because it is appealing. Well, the show just keeps going on. But the Spirit of God is not in it.

A Crossless Church; A Christless Gospel

From: acidri’s blog

The spiritual ignorance of the modern day believer is cushioned by social media and mass television programming that never talks about sin, righteousness or judgement. It’s no wonder when Paul writes of such a time as when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions. 2 Tim 4:3,  2Pe 2:1-3, 1Tim 6:8-10, Heb 13:5

There’s hardly any difference between the pursuits of the secular and Christian believers. Materialism is the preoccupation of the spiritually deluded and lost. When self importance and temporary life enhancement  preceed self denial and good discipleship then man begins to wonder into pursuit of a seemingly moving target.

Now the Spirit expressly says that in later times some will depart from the faith by devoting themselves to deceitful spirits and teachings of demons 1 Tim 4:1

For many, of whom I have often told you and now tell you even with tears, walk as enemies of the cross of Christ. Their end is destruction, their god is their belly, and they glory in their shame, with minds set on earthly things. Phil 3:18-19

There indeed was once a time when the deepest urge of a Christian was to be like Christ. But like the Laodicean Church we have said I am rich, I have prospered, and I need nothing, not realizing that you are wretched, pitiable, poor, blind, and naked. Jesus beckons, “I counsel you to buy from me gold refined by fire, so that you may be rich, and white garments so that you may clothe yourself and the shame of your nakedness may not be seen, and salve to anoint your eyes, so that you may see.” Rev 3:17-18.

The most gut-wrenching bit about all this is that the Church in Laodicea  seemed to have locked Christ out of “Church” as in the next verse He earnestly pleads and says I stand knocking on the door if any one hears my voice and opens the door I will come and eat with him and he with me.

Remember those who have run the race and fought the fight and have passed on ahead into glory. Remember their parting sermons and songs. They stayed true to the calling; true to the word of God. It’s time to get back to scripture and seek God like never before. We need a sense of urgency that only the Holy Spirit can give. Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

Editor’s note: As documented by the late Antony C. Sutton, Russian Marxism was created by Wall Street. “The question now in the readers’ minds must be, were these bankers also secret Bolsheviks? No, of course not. The financiers were without ideology. It would be a gross misinterpretation to assume that assistance for the Bolshevists was ideologically motivated, in any narrow sense. The financiers were power-motivated and therefore assisted any political vehicle that would give them an entree to power.” This effort “appears to be the foreign counterpart of Carroll Quigley’s claim that J.P. Morgan infiltrated the domestic left. Morgan also infiltrated the international left,” Sutton claims.

This amazing interview was done back in 1985 with a former KGB agent who was trained in subversion techniques. He explains the 4 basic steps to socially engineering entire generations into thinking and behaving the way those in power want them to. It’s shocking because our nation has been transformed in the exact same way, and followed the exact same steps.

A. W. Tozer (1897-1963): "What is needed DESPERATELY today is PROPHETIC INSIGHT. Scholars can interpret the past; it takes PROPHETS to INTERPRET the *PRESENT*"

Ephesians 4:

10 He who descended is the one who also ascended far above all the heavens, that he might fill all things. 11 He gave some to be apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, shepherds and teachers; 12 for the perfecting of the saints, to the work of serving, to the building up of the body of Christ; 13 until we all attain to the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a full grown man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ; 14 that we may no longer be children, tossed back and forth and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, in craftiness, after the wiles of error; 15 but speaking truth in love, we may grow up in all things into him, who is the head, Christ; 16 from whom all the body, being fitted and knit together through that which every joint supplies, according to the working in measure of each individual part, makes the body increase to the building up of itself in love.

PROPHETIC PREACHING
-by A.W. Tozer.

If Christianity is to receive a rejuvenation, it must be by other means than any now being used. If the Church in the second half of this century is to recover from the injuries she suffered in the first half, there must appear a new type of preacher. The proper, ruler-of-the- synagogue type will never do. Neither will the priestly type of man who carries out his duties, takes his pay and asks no questions, nor the smooth-talking pastoral type who knows how to make the Christian religion acceptable to everyone. All these have been tried and found wanting.

Another kind of religious leader must arise among us. He must be of the old prophet type, a man who has seen visions of God and has heard a voice from the Throne. When he comes (and I pray God there will be not one but many), he will stand in flat contradiction to everything our smirking, smooth civilization holds dear. He will contradict, denounce and protest in the name of God and will earn the hatred and opposition of a large segment of Christendom. Such a man is likely to be lean, rugged, blunt-spoken and a little bit angry with the world. He will love Christ and the souls of men to the point of willingness to die for the glory of the One and the salvation of the other. But he will fear nothing that breathes with mortal breath.

This is only to say that we need to have the gifts of the Spirit restored again to the Church. And it is my belief that the one gift we need most now is the gift of prophecy.

“Of the sons of Issachar who had understanding of the times, to know what Israel ought to do, their chiefs were two hundred” -1 Chr 12:32. A prophet is one who knows his times and what God is trying to say to the people of his times….

Today we need prophetic preachers; not preachers of prophecy merely, but preachers with a gift of prophecy. The word of wisdom is missing. We need the gift of discernment again in our pulpits. It is not ability to predict that we need, but the anointed eye, the power of spiritual penetration and interpretation, the ability to appraise the religious scene as viewed from God’s position, and to tell us what is actually going on….

Where is the man who can see through the ticker tape and confetti to discover which way the parade is headed, why it started in the first place and, particularly, who is riding up front in the seat of honor?…

What is needed desperately today is prophetic insight. Scholars can interpret the past; it takes prophets to interpret the present. Learning will enable a man to pass judgment on our yesterdays, but it requires a gift of clear seeing to pass sentence on our own day….

“Lord, I pray for that gift of prophetic insight. Move me beyond the knowledge You’ve enabled me to gain through education, reading, and study. I pray that I might lead as one ‘who has seen visions of God and has heard a voice from the throne.’ Amen.”

The real threat to America: Godlessness
by
Hilmar von Campe

Posted: September 29, 2009 on World Net Daily

Editor’s note: Hilmar von Campe wrote the following comments in July 2004 – “long before anybody had heard the name of Obama,” as the writer explains. His thoughts are still relevant, perhaps more so, today. Von Campe is the author of “Defeating the Totalitarian Lie: A Former Hitler Youth Warns America”

There is a great deal of confusion regarding the nature of the Nazi movement. Most if not all people who are familiar with the events of those years agree that its leaders were criminals. But quite a number of them, especially in the media, call Nazis fascists. Even though the bloody years of Nazi rule ended 64 years ago, the definition of who they were is of great importance for today. Without it we would be blind to reality.

As a German World War II veteran who grew up under the Nazis and who has studied about everything that has anything to do with their ideology, it is not difficult to define their reality. One principle theme of my 280 radio and television interviews in America has always been the comparison of the moral and ideological basis of the German Nazi society of that time and the American society of today. That theme also enters my books and articles.

Nazi society was based on lies, and lies are in the process of taking over America. I try to clarify for the American people that the ideological attack on America is part of the global attempt to eliminate God everywhere, replace Him with arbitrary rule of (leftist) man and destroy freedom. Godlessness brought Germany down. Godlessness is America’s and freedom’s No. 1 enemy.

As we lay ’em on the granite counter top

We beat ’em up

Where is the Love? Ron Paul: Instead of Bombs and Bribes, Let’s Try Empathy and Trade

“Sadly, one thing that has entirely escaped modern American foreign policy is empathy.

Without much humility or regard for human life, our foreign policy has been reduced to alternately bribing and bombing other nations, all with the stated goal of “promoting democracy.” But if a country democratically elects a leader who is not sufficiently pro-American, our government will refuse to recognize them, will impose sanctions on them, and will possibly even support covert efforts to remove them. Democracy is obviously not what we are interested in. It is more likely that our government is interested in imposing its will on other governments. This policy of endless intervention in the affairs of others is very damaging to American liberty and security.”

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YCKtJVYr4ds]

What if tomorrow morning you woke up to headlines that yet another Chinese drone bombing on U.S. soil killed several dozen ranchers in a rural community while they were sleeping? That a drone aircraft had come across the Canadian border in the middle of the night and carried out the latest of many attacks? What if it was claimed that many of the victims harbored anti-Chinese sentiments, but most of the dead were innocent women and children? And what if the Chinese administration, in an effort to improve its public image in the U.S., had approved an aid package to send funds to help with American roads and schools and promote Chinese values here?

Most Americans would not stand for it. Yet the above hypothetical events are similar to what our government is doing in Pakistan. Last week, Congress did approve an aid package for Pakistan for the stated purposes of improving our image and promoting democracy. I again made the point on the floor of the House that still no one seems to hear: What if this happened on U.S. soil? What if innocent Americans were being killed in repeated drone attacks carried out by some foreign force who was trying to fix our problems for us? Would sending money help their image? If another nation committed this type of violence and destruction on our homeland, would we be at all interested in adopting their values?

Sadly, one thing that has entirely escaped modern American foreign policy is empathy. This policy of endless intervention in the affairs of others is very damaging to American liberty and security.

If we were really interested in democracy, peace, prosperity, and safety, we would pursue more free trade with other countries. Free and abundant trade is much more conducive to peace because it is generally bad business to kill your customers. When one’s livelihood is on the line, and the business agreements are mutually beneficial, it is in everyone’s best interests to maintain cooperative and friendly relations and not kill each other. But instead, to force other countries to bend to our will, we impose trade barriers and sanctions. If our government really wanted to promote freedom, Americans would be free to travel and trade with whoever they wished. And if we would simply look at our own policies around the world through the eyes of others, we would understand how these actions make us more targeted and therefore less safe from terrorism. The only answer is get back to free trade with all and entangling alliances with none. It is our bombs and sanctions and condescending aid packages that isolate us.
