Kevin Conner was one of my Bible teachers at Abbott Loop Bible School for one semester in ~ 1984.
Since this message is about discipline, it’s interesting thatKevin once told me how important it is to work out physically for good health, after I was told by God: “ask him about healing.” I was surprised to hear something practical instead of spiritual.
In this message, Kevin says he was a few weeks from turning 86, and this was published on Feb 26, 2013.

Mark Conner’s Farewell, 2/19/17 – “After 22 years of faithful leadership as our longest-serving Senior Minister, and a total of 32 years on staff…”

1) Discipline of my mind
“If we don’t guard the gates, then sin enters through the mind.”
“The eye gate and the ear gate.”
“There are three sources of thought that we all have. … Thoughts that come from God…, self…, and from the Devil. … We all have to discern the source of our thoughts.”
2) Discipline of my attitudes
“Attitude indicates performance.”
3) Discipline of my prayer life
“If Jesus needed to pray, how much more do we? If Jesus in his humanity totally depended upon the Father for all he was, all he said, all he did — and he continually kept that line to the Father day and night — how much more do we?”
“My wife is different than me. I generally get up about 6:30 or 7:00, if I’m tired, just to pray and to make sure I feel right with God.”
4) Discipline of the Word
“If you don’t make time you’ll never find time. You have to make time to read the Word. It’s a discipline. The same is your prayer life. ”
5) Discipline of my spirit
“I have to continually guard my spirit.”
“We impart beyond our words. We impart what’s in our spirit.”
6) Discipline of honesty
“The opposite of honesty is hypocrisy.”
7) Discipline of my time
TESTIMONY — raised an orphan
Kevin can say that since he became born-again: “No wasted years!”

Kevin Conner on the Believer’s CONDITIONAL Security: “OBEDIENCE IS the very law of SECURITY for all created beings. There can be NO SUCH THING as UNCONDITIONAL security.” — WARNINGS against backsliding SHOW that the security of the believer is conditional upon obedience and faith • What God has provided in Christ man must receive and apply • Divine SOVEREIGNTY *and* human RESPONSIBILITY meet together in the great redemptive plan • Christ is “the author of eternal salvation unto all them that OBEY him”(Hebrews 5:9) • Upon HEARING and FOLLOWING the Shepherd they receive eternal life and will never perish • AS HE OBEYS the Word of the Lord his SECURITY against backsliding and apostacy is FULLY GUARANTEED
