Jesus prayed we'd be 'ONE' with each other in Him that the world will know! (John 17)

Sid Roth: The missing ingredient, speaking in tongues — "I believe that God wants to restore this gift for the last great push of God’s spirit"

From: www.sidroth.org/site/DocServer/IS580Transcript_DuVall.pdf?docID=3121

Sid Roth’s speaking in tongues testimony:

When I received my supernatural language I didn’t feel anything. I didn’t hear anything. Just by faith I started speaking. The man told me to do it, I believed that he knew what he was talking about, so therefore, I could do it. I was like a child. I had like childlike faith. If they had said you could sing, you could walk on water, I would have walked on water. But then immediately after I started speaking my language the thought popped in my head, you’re making that up. And so I was kind of, James calls it, I was kind of double-minded as far as my supernatural language.

And at that time an orthodox Jewish rabbi became a believer in Jesus. And I was talking with him and a woman came up that was expecting a baby, and the doctor had said the baby was dead within her. And she walked up to me, and I’m a brand new believer, and she said, “Pray for my baby to come to life.” Now I didn’t know anything. That was a little too much for me. And so when I prayed for the baby to come back to life all I could think of doing was praying in my supernatural language, and I did it. And after she left, the rabbi said to me, “You were speaking in an ancient form of Hebrew. Where did you learn it?” I said, “Rabbi, I know Bar Mitzvah Hebrew. I know how to read it. I don’t speak too many words.” This rabbi said to me, “Sid, you prophesied that the child was with the God the Father and be at peace.” And I, Janie, I never doubted again.

It was NORMAL for the early believers in Messiah to walk in the Supernatural Power of God with signs and wonders commonplace – thousands healed and saved. But somehow NORMAL has been hijacked! Find out the KEY that early believers understood and get ready to become NORMAL.

Sid Roth welcomes Janie DuVall

SID: Hello. Sid Roth here with Janie DuVall, and we’re talking about supernatural languages. I believe that God wants to restore this gift for the last great push of God’s spirit. As I study the great men and women of God throughout history one ingredient is left out, but it’s in the record, Janie, and that is they all have spoke in supernatural languages. There was a one-eyed, uneducated African-American man that literally led the Azusa Street Revival.

JANIE: William Seymour.

SID: Most people don’t know this. If you had walked into his service the first thing you would see is a man sitting there with a box over his head. You wouldn’t be able to see his face. You would have run out. But you know what he was doing? He was praying in supernatural languages, and he would not take the box off of his head until God told him what to do.

JANIE: But you know, he’s not the only one. John G. Lake, Smith Wigglesworth, that was their key to walking in the miraculous. And all the guests that you’ve had lately, even in like the past year, I asked them, okay, what’s your secret? How come you’re seeing angels? How come you’re being translated? How come you see fast answers to prayer? How come so many people are getting healed? I prayed in supernatural languages a long time. That’s the key. And you know what the big key, but some people can still pray in supernatural languages and not have anything happen. And the reason is when you’re praying in supernatural languages you’re allowing the Holy Spirit to change you. You’re allowing him to have you walk in supernatural love and supernatural power. But if you don’t allow that change then you could be stopping it.

Baloney! Bologna! (However you want to spell it.)
Biblical “tongues” were the languages of men. Even Acts 2, when the Holy Spirit descended upon the people, they spoke to others in that person’s native language (Acts 2:8). No where does the passage mention that anyone spoke in some “heavenly language” or babble.
Moreover, even when Paul spoke of speaking in the “tongues of angels or men” (1 Cor 13:1), he was NOT saying that men could actually speak in the languages of angels. It was to illustrate a point about love by a figurative contrast. Paul was not endorsing that the Church should/could speak in the languages of angels. Moreover, where does the Bible equate the babbling in an ecstatic state with being the “tongues of angels”?
Lastly, the evidence of being filled with the Holy Spirit is found in Ephesians 5, with NO MENTION of tongues! Ephesians 5:18-19, while talking specifically about being filled with the Holy Spirit, makes no mention of using tongues at all in context!
Church: please read the Bible in context! Please subjugate the false assumptions that many false teachers read into the scriptures! Many false teachers have ascribed speaking in babble as being evidence of being spiritual and/or empowered in Christendom. The Bible makes no such equation, as you see even in the three examples that I provided above.
Sid Roth is a false teacher. His claims about what he believes that God “wants to do” is based on his own imagination, false charismatic theology, and his own faulty eisegetic hermeneutical habits. Re-read the scriptures for yourselves, IN CONTEXT, to see if they affirm or contradict what he is telling you they say. And his subjective “prophetic” insight about God’s move means nothing if they contradict what is plainly written in the Bible.

      Dear PhileoTruth or LoveTruth,
If you love truth, then you will also love these passages.
I love the truth also, and ~“the Holy Spirit will lead us into all truth,” Jesus said.
Sola Scriptura is a doctrine of demons. The Bible isn’t supposed to be our only guide. Paul said “Those who are led by the Spirit are the sons of God.”
I agree with you that Eph. 5:18 isn’t necessarily referring to praying in tongues: “Don’t be drunken with wine, in which is dissipation, but be filled with the Spirit.”
Though speaking in tongues can help us be filled with the Holy Spirit. Jude 1:20

But you, beloved, keep building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit.

I wonder what you think Paul is referring to in Ephesians 5, when he says be filled with the Holy Spirit, if you are a total cessationist, which is the way you sound. Do you cite 1 Cor. 13 as your key text that tongues have ceased because now we know fully even as we are fully known? You know that’s talking about heaven, right?

12 For now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part, but then I will know fully, even as I was also fully known.

There is no indication at all that tongues will cease until we know fully and when we see face to face. Cessationism is a false doctrine, unsupported by the Bible.
And Paul explains it this way in 1 Cor. 14, where he gives directions for decency and order in church services. Tongues is for personal edification, unless it is a word for the assembly that would need to be interpreted. Notice they were all speaking in tongues in the church service, verse 23. And how does he conclude?
And clearly, Paul is saying that when the people were speaking in tongues “no one understands.”

1 Follow after love, and earnestly desire spiritual gifts, but especially that you may prophesy. 2 For he who speaks in another language speaks not to men, but to God; for no one understands; but in the Spirit he speaks mysteries. 3 But he who prophesies speaks to men for their edification, exhortation, and consolation. 4 He who speaks in another language edifies himself, but he who prophesies edifies the assembly. 5 Now I desire to have you all speak with other languages, but rather that you would prophesy. For he is greater who prophesies than he who speaks with other languages, unless he interprets, that the assembly may be built up. [these are directions for within the assembly]

6 But now, brothers, if I come to you speaking with other languages, what would I profit you, unless I speak to you either by way of revelation, or of knowledge, or of prophesying, or of teaching? 7 Even things without life, giving a voice, whether pipe or harp, if they didn’t give a distinction in the sounds, how would it be known what is piped or harped? 8 For if the trumpet gave an uncertain sound, who would prepare himself for war? 9 So also you, unless you uttered by the tongue words easy to understand, how would it be known what is spoken? For you would be speaking into the air. 10 There are, it may be, so many kinds of sounds in the world, and none of them is without meaning. 11 If then I don’t know the meaning of the sound, I would be to him who speaks a foreigner, and he who speaks would be a foreigner to me. 12 So also you, since you are zealous for spiritual gifts, seek that you may abound to the building up of the assembly.

13 Therefore let him who speaks in another language pray that he may interpret [in the assembly]. 14 For if I pray in another language, my spirit prays, but my understanding is unfruitful. 15 What is it then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will pray with the understanding also. I will sing with the spirit, and I will sing with the understanding also. 16 Otherwise if you bless with the spirit, how will he who fills the place of the unlearned say the “Amen” at your giving of thanks, seeing he doesn’t know what you say? 17 For you most certainly give thanks well, but the other person is not built up. 18 I thank my God, I speak with other languages more than you all. 19 However in the assembly I would rather speak five words with my understanding, that I might instruct others also, than ten thousand words in another language.

20 Brothers, don’t be children in thoughts, yet in malice be babies, but in thoughts be mature. 21 In the law it is written, “By men of strange languages and by the lips of strangers I will speak to this people. Not even thus will they hear me, says the Lord.” 22 Therefore other languages are for a sign, not to those who believe, but to the unbelieving; but prophesying is for a sign, not to the unbelieving, but to those who believe. 23 If therefore the whole assembly is assembled together and all speak with other languages, and unlearned or unbelieving people come in, won’t they say that you are crazy? 24 But if all prophesy, and someone unbelieving or unlearned comes in, he is reproved by all, and he is judged by all. 25 And thus the secrets of his heart are revealed. So he will fall down on his face and worship God, declaring that God is among you indeed.

26 What is it then, brothers? When you come together, each one of you has a psalm, has a teaching, has a revelation, has another language, has an interpretation. Let all things be done to build each other up. 27 If any man speaks in another language, let it be two, or at the most three, and in turn; and let one interpret. 28 But if there is no interpreter, let him keep silent in the assembly, and let him speak to himself, and to God. 29 Let the prophets speak, two or three, and let the others discern. 30 But if a revelation is made to another sitting by, let the first keep silent. 31 For you all can prophesy one by one, that all may learn, and all may be exhorted. 32 The spirits of the prophets are subject to the prophets, 33 for God is not a God of confusion, but of peace. As in all the assemblies of the saints,

34 let your wives keep silent in the assemblies, for it has not been permitted for them to speak; but let them be in subjection, as the law also says. 35 If they desire to learn anything, let them ask their own husbands at home, for it is shameful for a woman to chatter in the assembly. 36 What? Was it from you that the word of God went out? Or did it come to you alone?

37 If any man thinks himself to be a prophet, or spiritual, let him recognize the things which I write to you, that they are the commandment of the Lord. 38 But if anyone is ignorant, let him be ignorant.

39 Therefore, brothers, desire earnestly to prophesy, and don’t forbid speaking with other languages. 40 Let all things be done decently and in order.

      Jesus said in Mark 16:17

“These signs will accompany those who believe: in my name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new languages….”

Speaking in tongues is normal. It’s a sign that follows those who believe. But it takes childlike faith to simply do what God says to do.
So what does Eph. 5:18 mean to a cessationist? I’m curious.
“Don’t be drunken with wine, in which is dissipation, but be filled with the Spirit.” God wants us to be high. It’s normal to be high. We’re supposed to seek being high, but not in a worldly way.
I agree that being filled isn’t talking about tongues; though, it may be a way to be filled.
In Acts 2, a lot more happened than just tongues, and it is true that people heard them speaking in their languages. But that doesn’t mean these were the only languages they were speaking. And in the other incidents in Acts of the believers praying in tongues this is not mentioned as happening.
      Act 2:

14 But Peter, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice, and spoke out to them, “You men of Judea, and all you who dwell at Jerusalem, let this be known to you, and listen to my words. 15 For these aren’t drunken, as you suppose, seeing it is only the third hour of the day. 16 But this is what has been spoken through the prophet Joel:

17 ‘It will be in the last days, says God, that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh. Your sons and your daughters will prophesy. Your young men will see visions. Your old men will dream dreams.

18 Yes, and on my servants and on my handmaidens in those days, I will pour out my Spirit, and they will prophesy.

They didn’t just speak in tongues . They were filled with the Spirit to the point that they looked drunk. And this is what happens at times when we draw near to God and He draws near to us. For example: Wes Hall: Why do people laugh and shake under the power of God? | “The Lord has released a revelation of the Father’s love I’ll never forget”
“It will be in the last days, says God, that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh…” We are in the last days. Last means last.
“It is time to repent” for sola scriptura. For “those who are led by the Spirit are the sons of God.”
And the Devil just loves it when ‘Christians’ actively refuse to pray perfectly in tongues, for in my experience, praying perfectly in tongues is a key way to deal with evil spirits. God is so wise to give us this gift to help us battle with darkness in a way that we won’t get our thoughts yukky. And it actually can help clean up our thoughts — if they are demon influenced.
The Devil also likes it when ‘Christians’ attack the Christians who are calling for Biblical change, like Sid Roth. Who is the “false teacher” here? Who is reading the Scriptures out of context?

  2. PhileoTruth

Sorry. One last point. Didn’t Jesus rebuke the Pharisees and the Saduccees about seeking after signs? (Matthew 16:1-4.) So why tout that Wigglesworth and Lake allegedly walked in the “miraculous”? Does the Bible/did the Bible need their supposed signs to validate it after Christ’s resurrection and ascension is clearly documented in the closed canon of scripture?
If the readers profess to be Protestant, please refresh yourselves in Sola Scriptura! Trust in the scripture alone (i.e., “Sola Scriptura”) and do not seek after or conjure up these so-called signs to validate your Christianity! Please don’t let the false teachers of today pump this faulty charismatic theology into your minds to where Sola Scriptura becomes insufficient, and the so-called “miracles, signs, and wonders” become necessary. Thank you.

    • Jeff Fenske

      LoveTruth,
Jesus rebuked the Pharisees for their lack of faith: not believing without seeing signs; though, Jesus did signs and wonders by the Holy Spirit: A Call to Intimacy: The Holy Spirit in John’s Gospel & Epistles
Smith Wigglesworth and John G. Lake did what Jesus said we’re supposed to be doing — His works — which are also described in 1 Cor. 12 and elsewhere. And many healings happened during the early church fathers period (100-300 A.D.), by the way.
      Mark 16:

15 He said to them, “Go into all the world, and preach the Good News to the whole creation. 16 He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who disbelieves will be condemned. 17 These signs will accompany those who believe: in my name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new languages; 18 they will take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it will in no way hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.”

As I said above, sola scriptura is a false doctrine. We’re supposed to be led by the Holy Spirit Who will lead us into all truth. Jesus laid this out clearly in John 14-16, and John said this in 1 John 2:

26 These things I have written to you concerning those who would lead you astray. 27 As for you, the anointing which you received from him remains in you, and you don’t need for anyone to teach you. But as his anointing teaches you concerning all things, and is true, and is no lie, and even as it taught you, you will remain in him.

      Sola Scritura is a lie.
And refusing to speak in tongues is at the very least a lack of willingness to do what God says to do, and teaching others that it’s not even Biblical is a really scary place to be. And calling Sid Roth a false teacher….
I had a seminary professor in seminary who believed like you do, but he stopped speaking this way because of this Scripture.Perhaps you should take heed too to Jesus’ words in Matthew 12:

31 Therefore I tell you, every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven men, but the blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven men. 32 Whoever speaks a word against the Son of Man, it will be forgiven him; but whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit, it will not be forgiven him, neither in this age, nor in that which is to come.

You’re not only taking Scriptures out of context, you probably also have a canon within the Canon, ignoring the texts that don’t suit your doctrine. “Shame on you.”
There is still time to repent and get right with those you’ve hurt.
      jeff

  3. PhileoTruth

    @Jeff,
Just as you changed my pseudonym, “PhileoTruth” to fit your concept of what I am, so too do you with the Scriptures that you cite. It’s “PhileoTruth,” sir. Please read my name in context and the Scriptures in context. Your prooftexting and the obvious bent toward charismatic misinterpretation speaks for itself in your reply. You correctly pasted much scripture but not much substance with it.
May I ask, how do you conclude that “Sola Scriptura” is a “doctrine of demons” when it aims to exalt the primacy of the Bible itself? Would a teaching of demons emphasize dependence to believers upon the Scriptures?
May I ask, do you consider yourself “Protestant”? Or Christian? If so, how can you defend Sid Roth and the like who emphasize sign gifts and NOT the Christ to whom such gifts ought to point? Sign gifts ought to point to Christ, not glorify the one using the gifts. Would you agree?
I look forward to your reply.

    • Jeff Fenske

      PhileoTruth,
I merely translated your pseudonym to illustrate the point that you aren’t what you say you are. If you really loved the truth you’d love the verses that disprove your premise and not blow them off as unimportant.
Sola Scriptura (Scripture alone) is a doctrine of demons because demons originated the idea and demons empower those who defend it. Demons also pressure people into accepting it. I think this mainly happens through ‘Christians’ who James-3 curse (‘pray’) onto others.
The Bible is the Word of God, but the Bible isn’t God. We’re commanded to love the Lord, our God with all of our heart, soul, mind and strength, not the Bible. Teaching that we are to be led by the Bible alone, instead of by firstly, God Himself is a form of idolatry, teaching people to follow the Book alone, not God Himself, Who is life. Jesus said in John 5:

39 “You search the Scriptures, because you think that in them you have eternal life; and these are they which testify about me. 40 Yet you will not come to me, that you may have life.

So do you see what is wrong with your statement/question: May I ask, how do you conclude that “Sola Scriptura” is a “doctrine of demons” when it aims to exalt the primacy of the Bible itself?
That’s exactly what demons want: to exalt the Bible itself instead of God Himself. They want to keep us from Him.
The Bible says those who are led by the Spirit (not the Bible) are the sons of God.
It’s similar to how many Calvinists claim that if God is totally sovereign (man really doesn’t have free will; God decides everything), then this is said to give Him more glory. While in fact, this would just make Him an ogre, solely deciding who goes to Heaven and who goes to Hell — a people manipulator — a puppeteer.
God has sovereignly chosen to give man free will so people are responsible for their own destiny, Heaven or Hell.
Demons push doctrines that turn off people from abiding in Christ, Himself.
Regarding speaking of tongues being a “sign gift,” the special manifestation that occurred at Pentecost was that. But since then, speaking in tongues is mainly a trench-warfare gift. It’s something we should do everyday to pray perfectly so we can fight and win this battle against darkness without getting our hands dirty — which is my assessment from my personal experience. It’s a way to build up our faith, praying in the Holy Spirit.
Paul said that people should pray in tongues in private, unless it’s a word for the church that would then require interpretation. If we’re doing what Paul said, praying in tongues in private, tongues won’t be a sign to anyone. [Paul’s main purpose for this directive was meant to not stumble visitors, so many conclude that if it’s a believers’ meeting in which there are no visitors to stumble, then it’s okay to speak in tongues in front of the others at the meeting, which I think is correct.]
      Jeff

      • PhileoTruth

        @Jeff,
I have demonstrated love in that I have spoken out to warn readers about this false doctrine being perped by Sid Roth. Biblically, love corrects as well as comforts.
What happened at Pentecost is not happening today. Many charismatics are so subjective in their Biblical interpretation, that on the one hand, they tout that God is “doing a new thing” but what they describe is a re-hash of the old.
The “spiritual warfare” paradigm that you describe is also false. For where in the Bible are tongues equated with doing battle with demonic forces? Where in the Bible, particularly the NT, is there ANY instruction on how to do “warfare” with demonic forces other than Ephesians 6. Do you notice, the “whole armor of God” is primarily defensive, not offensive. And is there any mention of using the “sign gift” of tongues? Clearly that is a pet paradigm that gives professed Christians a false sense of empowerment. Trust me, I know how easy it is to yell at imaginary demons in Christ’s name, rather than dealing with real issues in a Biblically sound way.

Frankly, whatever is “leading” you is not drawing you closer to Christ if it relies upon sign gifts to validate it. Clearly, there was a historical place for the sign gifts. Today, there is less need for them. I do not hold that they have completely ceased, but they are not as plentiful as charismatics falsely purport. The very lack of credible evidence attests to the fact that charismatics are not experiencing God as they often purport. And likewise, many of their prophecies have questionable alleged fulfillments or no fulfillment at all. As the church is the pillar and ground of truth, why subject its members to spurious fanciful prognostications allegedly in Jesus’ name? Sid Roth is among those culprits with such a ridiculous prediction.
Consider: how many other churches would have already touted that God had already restored tongues to the body of Christ because of its alleged activity in their congregations? What is uniquely of God in what Roth is predicting? How many other people have made such a ridiculous claim before him? He is false as they were before him.

        • Jeff Fenske

          “PhileoTruth,”
The main problem with the charismatic church today is the same problem in the non-charismatic church: willful, unrepentant sin, which opens them up to demon spirits. And the main reason for willful, unrepentant sin is the once-saved-always-saved doctrine which is destroying the church.
You keep calling tongues a sign gift, when I just showed you Paul showed that it mainly isn’t. This is another example of how much you love truth.
And the specifics of what happened at Pentecost isn’t usually what is supposed to happen today, nor did it seem to happen later in Acts when believers spoke in tongues. That was the inaugural event.
I didn’t say tongues is for offensive warfare. If you really love truth you’d read more carefully and with more love. We’re supposed to love our neighbor as ourself, right?
Regarding tongues being mainly spiritual warfare. I said that was based upon my own experience. But this isn’t a valid argument for the truth lover because his truth is only contained in the Bible, which is totally true, but doesn’t contain all truth.
Because of your unbiblically narrow, sola-Scriptura mindset, you think that if it can’t be demonstrated from the Bible then what is stated must be ‘false.’ But the Holy Spirit is to lead believers into all truth, according to the Bible.
          jeff

  4. PhileoTruth

    @Jeff,
BTW, where in the Bible is “being led by the Spirit of God” equated with speaking in babble (or languages of any sort)? Quoting “being led of the Spirit” does not validate your claim that speaking in babble is evidence of the Spirit. Show me a clear, contextual Biblical correlation of these concepts please. Thank you for your reply.

    • Jeff Fenske

I brought being “led by the Spirit” to demonstrate the fallacy of your Sola Scriptura doctrine, which possibly includes cessationism. Many cite the tongues passage at the end of 1 Cor. 13 as their proof text; though, it’s taken way out of context, which I showed.
      jeff

      • PhileoTruth

Sola Scriptura is one of the Five Solas of the Reformation. No one who properly understands the concept of Sola Scriptura could EVER conclude that the Bible is to be exalted above God. For in the Scriptures is the self-disclosure of God to humanity. Clearly, the intent of reading the Bible is to come to know God. You do NOT know God apart from Scriptures. So many charismatics subjugate the objective Scriptures for their peculiar, subjective whims. And thus we have the confusion of tongues and false prophecies running rampant in the body of Christ.
Shame on us for not reading our Bibles with humility and integrity. Shame on you for denouncing Sola Scriptura as a doctrine of demons. For you deny the very God in Christ that you profess with such a blasphemous accusation! You ascribe what rightly points people to God in His holy Word as being the teaching of devils! Blasphemy!

        • Jeff Fenske

          “PhileoTruth,”
Sola Scriptura is one of the reasons the Reformation didn’t bring us back to real Christianity. Luther didn’t get it. Calvin didn’t get it. We need a reformation of the Reformation.
Believing that Scripture is the only truth keeps people from seeking God, Who is all Truth.
That’s why you’re so messed up. You’re not led by the Holy Spirit, doing your internet witch hunts, driven by the dark side.
And the problems in the charismatic community, such as false prophecies: again, this is because of willful and unrepentant sin which opens them up to be led by and actually hear demons — thanks to the once-saved-always-saved Lutheran/Calvinistic doctrine.

The issue with Sid is that he let’s just about anyone on that has a wacky testimony and I guess people from the Elijahlist pay to go on TV to outdo each other with their amazing subjective stories like golddust babies, fish wearing lost sunglasses, third heaven visits at will and angel parties
So don’t put up with anyone pressuring you in details of diet, worship services, or holy days. All those things are mere shadows cast before what was to come; the substance is Christ. Don’t tolerate people who try to run your life, ordering you to bow and scrape, insisting that you join their obsession with angels and that you seek out visions. They’re a lot of hot air, that’s all they are. They’re completely out of touch with the source of life, Christ, who puts us together in one piece, whose very breath and blood flow through us. He is the Head and we are the body. We can grow up healthy in God only as he nourishes us.
    Col 2:16-19

  7. I can testify that speaking in tongues has been an incredible gift from the Lord that Jesus has freely given to all believers, why because if you are believer you have the Holy Spirit!!! Praying in tongues has brought me a closer walk with the Lord and helped me walk out the reality of the supernatural and powerful Kingdom of Heaven. There are a lot testimonies of others who have experience the power of tongues in their walk. Paul thanked God he spoke in tongues more than anyone else and he wrote alot of the new testament. Could praying in tongues be a result? Here is amazing free e-book that has really helped me on praying in tongues. All of Dave Roberson’s teachings are free so download, share, and enjoy!!!

RE the Dave Roberson book: I think this is going to be life changing and I’ve not even finished reading it yet! This is exactly what I needed right now as I’ve been desperately asking God to show me the truth and develop my discernment to separate the lies because there’s so many false teachings out there. And (surprise, surprise) since the enemy is an expert at lying (he’s had thousands of years to perfect his craft) almost every conflicting teaching will have somewhere (in print, or online) credible, well-reasoned, well-supported reasons scripturally for being ‘right’ while others are not. Yes, the Bible should be our foundation, but without faith that the Holy Spirit will help us interpret what we read (hence ‘guide us into all truth’), our interpretations can be widely subjective. I’ve neglected using the gift of speaking in tongues as regularly as I should because of doubts and pride. But, as Roberson reminds us, ‘praying in the Spirit’ (praying in tongues) ‘builds us up’ (enhances our faith and builds up our spiritual senses and other spiritual gifts – including discernment.
Thank God! And thank you for sharing the link 🙂

      • Ken,
Praying in tongues deals directly with evil spirits. It’s very important! You’ll probably even feel the difference right away.
It’s a way of praying perfectly against evil without our minds having to see how evil these forces really are. I’ve learned this from over 30 years, praying this way. This could easily be proved in clinical studies, which someone should someday do.
I pray in tongues about an hour a day, often two or more, because I get James-3 cursed so much for standing up for what’s right openly — and hardly any still pray in tongues enough. Many ‘Christians,’ even, regularly pray against people, as James said in chapter 3. He actually says the source is the heart:
14 But if you have bitter jealousy and selfish ambition IN YOUR HEART, don’t boast and don’t lie against the truth. 15 This wisdom is not that which comes down from above, but is earthly, sensual, and DEMONIC.
        God bless!
        Jeff

  8. Carefully Examine What They Tell You

Hi everyone searching info on tongues, I pray that God blesses your search.
    @ “PhileoTruth”
He/ she writes “The “spiritual warfare” paradigm that you describe is also false. For where in the Bible are tongues equated with doing battle with demonic forces? Where in the Bible, particularly the NT, is there ANY instruction on how to do “warfare” with demonic forces other than Ephesians 6”
You do realise that praying in the Spirit is another way of saying praying in tongues? Please READ Ephesians 6:10 – 20 and see what you find.
Jesus telling us that the Holy Spirit will teach us all things AND remind us of all things He said IS important and clear evidence that we have two regular sources of getting from God:
    1The Bible,
    2God’s Spirit
I’m not particularly happy about the way the argument has gone on above. Whilst I agree with a lot of what Jeff has said, it should be said that we are to regularly be reading our Bibles because they contain Truth and GOD SPEAKS through them. I feel like the Bible has taken a bit of a sideline in Jeff proving the importance of Spirit, which he has done well.
This Sola Scriptura thing… if it is a doctrine that is against the current manifestations of the Spirit and His teaching and reminding us of all things, I am opposed to it. If it is a doctrine that idolises the Bible and takes from God’s glory and focus of worship, I am opposed to it.
    May God bless you.

praying in tongues is the believer’s weapon we should use it

  11. You people argue too much. I have never heard anything misleading from Sid Roth. Of course you need to know the Word of God and the gifts to go with it to discern this is a godly man. You might try asking the Holy Spirit anything you need to know if you are on speaking terms with Him, otherwise ask Sid Roth.

I love Sid. He is flamboyant, yes, but I get it. I met Jesus 16 years ago and the scales fell from my eyes. I will never be the same. And some supernatural things did occur in my life. It would hurt me so badly if others called me false. Strange things can happen when you are in love with Jesus, because the holy spirit works in mysterious ways – ways man cannot always understand. You cannot scripturalize falling in love and having intercession with Jesus. He did not come to take away or add to the law (except to love one another as you love yourself) but to make it come true – scriptures serve one purpose and that is to nourish, but not to drive out Jesus with Jesus.

In Acts 2, when the followers of Christ spoke in tongues on that Pentecost day, they spoke a language they did not understand, but there were some there who did “happen” to know what they were saying. Why do you suppose God did that? God gave them what to say as they said what was given them to say, one sound at a time. They were not making it up by their mind, rather the Spirit of God was giving them what to say, connecting something from the new creation in them with their own mechanics of speech.
It’s something like a man who has a heavenly vision as he drives home from work. He watches the vision and the road and traffic at the same time.
One thing does not disturb the other. The spiritual gift does not interfere with what he’s doing.
That’s why people can speak in tongues silently as they read a book.
It is supernatural. It is a gift of God. It is done by faith. It is given by God.
It may be a language of angels or men. On that Pentecost day, it was the languages of men that men heard. How would we know there were not languages of angles present in the tongues that were spoken on that day? Who would have known? How could anyone have known? There may have been kinds of tongues, which is when one person speaks in different tongues.
Each tongue has it’s own particular sounds, and when a man speaks in tongues making the same kind of sounds which are particular to his tongue, yet having many different sounds, we can recognize it as a language, just as much as when we listen to someone who speaks a differnet language than we do. We recognize it as a language because of it’s particular sounds.
    Tongues are a sign.

    • I agree.
And in my own personal experience, I’ve heard my prayer language do *many* different things and sound many different ways. Sometimes, but not often or recently, it’s sounded like Mandarin Chinese. I’ve wondered if that was an actual language.
And sometimes, but not usually or recently, it’s sounded somewhat Aramaic, having the guttural sounds.
And sometimes, which usually happens a few times a week, currently, the power of God hits me when I’m praying in tongues for someone, and my hands start to shake over my head. I’m not sure, but I’ve come to believe this is God’s way of telling me I’m praying something important and that He’s pleased I’m doing this.
Everyone should pray in tongues, and most should pray a lot more than they are.
Many are in spiritual bondage because they don’t pray enough.
