My analysis of Jack Hibbs message: That You May Know – A

LISTEN HERE

I carefully transcribed these three quotes by Jack Hibbs:

JACK HIBBS @ 5:45: “You may be sitting here tonight struggling in the back ‘Oh, am I saved, you know I sinned today, you know.’  Listen, you’re going to grow in the grace and the knowledge of Jesus Christ, and you’re going to find out that not only is there no thing created that can separate you from the love of God, but if you read Romans 8 you’re going to find out that you cannot separate yourself from the love of God.”

WHAT ROMANS 8 CLEARLY SAYS:

First, nowhere in Romans 8 does Paul say we cannot separate ourselves from the love of God. Paul said the opposite, that we only are “in Christ, having “no condemnation” when we actually abide in Christ, “walking not according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit.”

Second, both the “*who* (“no thing created” – Hibbs) shall separate us” promise in Romans 8:35 and “no condemnation” statement in verse 1 only applies to those who actually are “in Christ” based upon what Paul says in four different ways in verses 1-17:

Verse 1b: “who don’t walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit.”

Verse 4b: “who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.”

Verse 13: “For if you live after the flesh, you must die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live.”

Verse 14: “For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are children of God.”

Verse 17b: “joint-heirs with Christ; if indeed we suffer with him, that we may also be glorified with him.”
________

JACK HIBBS @ 15:19: “There is no construction here whatsoever that would lead you to believe at all, nor could you argue that you can come to the knowledge of God, be saved, and then lose that.”

That’s OSAS, “once saved always saved.”
________

JACK HIBBS @ 18:25: “When we say ‘God, I promise I’ll never do this again.’ He just goes [Hibbs makes a clicking noise] ‘I know the kid means well, but he has no power to keep a promise. He’s a human.’ God is the only one who keeps a promise. … The truth of the matter is Jesus alone keeps the promise.”

God will always enable us to overcome:

“No temptation has taken you except what is common to man. God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted above what you are able, but will with the temptation also make the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.” (1 Cor. 10:13)

By God’s grace, we are able to abide in Christ, having a clear conscience like Paul always practiced:

“..I also practice ALWAYS having a conscience void of offense toward God and men.” (Acts 24:16)

Many dozens of verses demonstrate that our salvation is contingent upon us abiding in Christ:

Who-Goes-To-Heaven Scriptures — Narrow is the Way | Who are the Children of God? — “There is therefore now *no condemnation* to those who are IN CHRIST Jesus, who don’t WALK according to the flesh, but ACCORDING TO THE SPIRIT”
