[NOTE] Steve Hill uses the controversial homosexuality example here, but what doesn’t get as much airplay is that this is just as true of heterosexual lusters, haters, envyers, alcoholics, etc.. “Those who practice such things will not inherit the Kingdom of God. And real, going-to-heaven Christians, “those who belong to Christ have crucified the flesh with its passions and lusts [absolutely including heterosexual].”
19 Now the works of the flesh are obvious, which are: adultery, sexual immorality, uncleanness, lustfulness, 20 idolatry, sorcery, hatred, strife, jealousies, outbursts of anger, rivalries, divisions, heresies, 21 envyings, murders, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these; of which I forewarn you, even as I also forewarned you, that those who practice such things will not inherit the Kingdom of God.
22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, and self-control. Against such things there is no law. 24 Those who belong to Christ have crucified the flesh with its passions and lusts [absolutely including heterosexual]. …
6:7 Don’t be deceived. God is not mocked, for whatever a man sows, that will he also reap. 8 For he who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption. But he who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life.

Challenging the authority of the Word
For the most part, the challenge to the authority of the Scriptures is subtler, and some of it flows out of the deification of man: “The Bible must live up to my standards. I will judge the God of the Bible based on my morality rather than the God of the Bible judging me based on His morality.”
Because of this mentality it is more and more common to hear believers talk about the problem they have with the God of the Old Testament or to question whether the Bible really means what it says, a case in point being a pro-homosexual reading of Scripture. The problem is not that the verses aren’t clear. The problem is that we know homosexuals who say they really love the Lord and seem to be very Christlike, and they are devoted to each other as a couple and even pray together in the Spirit.
So what do we do? Rather than say to the practicing homosexuals [or to hating, heterosexual lusting, envying, lying, or etc. ‘Christians’], “You may be very sincere, but the Word of God is very clear,” we question what the Word says despite its clarity. And so, rather than speaking the truth in love to sinners and telling them that if they want to please the Lord and be in right relationship with Him, they must take up the cross and follow Him, we reinterpret (or rewrite) the Word.
In short, When the Scriptures contradict our feelings and preferences, rather than crucify our feelings and preferences and bow down before God and His Word, we question God’s Word.
Spiritual Avalanche – Steve Hill: The 7 Great Lies in the Church Today — Overemphasis of Prosperity • Exaggerated View of Grace (grace-changers nullify all divine warnings) • Antinomianism = against rules, so “anything goes” (but “Jesus didn’t set us free to sin; He set us free from sin”) • Gazing Upon Man, not God • Challenging the Authority of the Word (God didn’t really mean what He said) • Rejecting Hell • Universal Reconciliation
Spiritual Avalanche – Steve Hill on ANTINOMIANISM (‘against law’ – “YOU’RE NOT GOING TO PUT ME INTO BONDAGE”): What they fail to realize is that now, under the new covenant, the law is written on our hearts. JESUS BROKE the POWER OF SIN on our lives, so by the Spirit we can LIVE OUT the righteous requirements of the law. “Adultery refers to ADULTERY OF THE HEART and not just the physical act.” “Sin will love you for a season and curse you for eternity.”
