Jesus prayed we'd be 'ONE' with each other in Him that the world will know! (John 17)

As Jesus: “Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do”

I’ve finally shared much of what I know about and what can be done through the TREMENDOUS and mostly misunderstood and underused gift of tongues. A reader thankfully put me over the edge : )

I finally spilled the beans about what I know about praying in tongues. It started with this very much appreciated comment by Monica, where I lay it out.

I first respond by talking about forgiving to get free, and then share what I’ve learned and refined since the early ’80s about how to get free by praying in tongues, how to pray for others to get free — even how we can know who is cursing us (bullies beware), lying to us, etc..

And it’s all related to this part of the Let Us Be ONE prophecy: A Gift that Will Set Many Free! (A Death Warrant is Out for Your Souls)

Someday, I’ll probably write this up more formally. But this should help many a lot — those who choose to read this cutting edge, freedom producing overview of what tongues is really about and why it’s for everyone!

God bless!

Forgiving-Others, Freedom Prayer!

This is the forgiving-others prayer that I use. It’s based upon the prayer that my Wellspring-Ministries-trained counselor had me pray numerous times. [Art Mathias’ version is in his book: Biblical Foundations of Freedom Destroying Satan’s Lies With God’s Truth]. The process continues as long as we still are hated on and James-3 cursed.

Both Jesus and Stephen prayed forgive-them prayers out loud for those who were physically acting out their curses on them, violently killing them. How could they do this unless they had been praying for their ‘enemies’ in this way all along.

This prayer is a little bit more detailed than theirs. Perhaps the more we grow in Christlikeness, the more we are full of the Holy Spirit, the simpler our prayers can be. But for now, it seems that praying this more detailed prayer out for all of those who have or are hurting us seems to be more effective in releasing the Mt.-18 tormentors from our lives.

Jesus said the tormentors will be allowed to torment us unless we forgive everyone from our heart. Matthew 18:

21 Then Peter came and said to him, “Lord, how often shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? Until seven times?” 22 Jesus said to him, “I don’t tell you until seven times, but, until seventy times seven.

23 Therefore the Kingdom of Heaven is like a certain king, who wanted to reconcile accounts with his servants. 24 When he had begun to reconcile, one was brought to him who owed him ten thousand talents. 25 But because he couldn’t pay, his lord commanded him to be sold, with his wife, his children, and all that he had, and payment to be made. 26 The servant therefore fell down and kneeled before him, saying, ‘Lord, have patience with me, and I will repay you all!’ 27 The lord of that servant, being moved with compassion, released him, and forgave him the debt. 28 “But that servant went out, and found one of his fellow servants, who owed him one hundred denarii, and he grabbed him, and took him by the throat, saying, ‘Pay me what you owe!’ 29 “So his fellow servant fell down at his feet and begged him, saying, ‘Have patience with me, and I will repay you!’ 30 He would not, but went and cast him into prison, until he should pay back that which was due. 31 So when his fellow servants saw what was done, they were exceedingly sorry, and came and told to their lord all that was done. 32 Then his lord called him in, and said to him, ‘You wicked servant! I forgave you all that debt, because you begged me. 33 Shouldn’t you also have had mercy on your fellow servant, even as I had mercy on you?’ 34 His lord was angry, and delivered him to the tormentors, until he should pay all that was due to him. 35 So my heavenly Father will also do to you, if you don’t each forgive your brother from your hearts for his misdeeds.”

Paul also showed how not-forgiving gives demons a right to enter our lives. Ephesians 4:

25 Therefore, putting away falsehood, speak truth each one with his neighbor. For we are members of one another. 26 “Be angry, and don’t sin.” Don’t let the sun go down on your wrath, 27 neither give place to the devil.

_______________

Repentance Prayer

Dear Heavenly Father, in the name of The Lord Jesus, I purpose and choose to forgive (name) from my whole heart for (what they did).

I release (name). I cancel their debts and obligations to me in this issue.
Dear Lord, I ask you to forgive me for my bitterness toward (above name) in this situation.

In the name of Jesus, by the power of Your blood, I cancel all of Satan’s power and authority over me in this issue, because I have forgiven them, and You have forgiven me. It is done and over with.

Holy Spirit, please come and heal my heart. And please tell me your truth about this situation.

I now purpose and choose to forgive myself.
.
The counselor then gives the person praying an opportunity to speak what God often says. This is a great way to hear God’s voice!

Then mine asked:

Do you feel any guilt or condemnation?

Does it hurt anymore?

If there is still pain in the memory then there is still unforgiveness, Art Mathias and Wellspring teaches.

Also, the prayer my counselor had me pray says this:

[speak out loud so the dark side can hear it]

I don’t know if this is necessary or not, but it’s probably a good idea. The main thing, I think is to mean what we say and forgive even from the bottom of our hearts — to let God deal with them.

It’s amazing to me that to Jesus, it is so important for us to be right in our hearts toward everyone that He willfully allows us to be tormented by demons until we purpose and choose to forgive those who hurt us, just like He and Stephen did. Then we’ll be free!

By the way, I purposely redden the word, heart in many of my posts to emphasize that this literally means from our actually pumping hearts, that are more than just pumps. They’re the center of our emotions. And forgiving or loving others from the bottom of our hearts can even mean from a place deeper than that, which is why I have the “heart, soul, mind, gut?” category. Scientific studies show there is brainlike tissue not just in the heart, but also in the gut.

The Bible talks about the heart about 1,000 times!

Forgive and be FREE!

SPIRITUAL AWAKENING: The Only Thing That Will Save Us
– by J. Lee Grady.

We can learn an important lesson from the East African Revival, which transformed a region 80 years ago.

The people of Uganda call it Balokole. In the Luganda language it means “the saved ones,” but the word became synonymous with the East African Revival˜one of the most significant Christian movements in modern history.

This revival had humble beginnings in September 1929, just before America’s Great Depression. Historians trace it to a prayer meeting on Namirembe Hill in Kampala, Uganda, where a missionary to Rwanda, Joe Church, prayed and read the Bible for two days with his friend Simeoni Nsibambi. They felt God had showed them that the African church was powerless because of a lack of personal holiness.

It is impossible to explain exactly what happened after this prayer meeting or how the resulting spiritual fervor spread. When God comes, unusual things happen. Within weeks after the Rev. Church returned to Gahini, Rwanda, Christians gathered to pray and confess their sins openly. A heavy spirit of conviction fell on the people. Whenever they repented for their sins and failures they would weep uncontrollably, ask others to forgive them and pledge to make restitution.

The weeping spread to farmlands and open fields. Unbelievers who visited these gatherings were converted after they witnessed the sincerity of the Christians. Repentance went deep. Husbands publicly apologized for adultery and farmers repented for stealing cows from each other. Eventually, as the revival spread from Rwanda to Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania and Burundi, even the centuries-old tradition of polygamy (which was still common among professing Christians) was unraveled in some areas.

Balokole changed African Christianity forever. In a 1986 article for Christian History, Michael Harper writes of the revival: “It’s effects have been more lasting than almost any other revival in history, so that today there is hardly a single Protestant leader in East Africa who has not been touched by it in some way.”

I spent the past two weeks ministering in Uganda and Kenya, and everywhere I went I met people who still talk about the East African Revival˜80 years after it began. It breathed resurrection power into dead, traditional churches and triggered aggressive church-planting movements that affected a variety of denominations.

Whether sermons were delivered from pulpits or under trees, six important themes were emphasized in those days: 1) the blood of Jesus; 2) the name of Jesus; 3) the cross of Jesus; 4) the Word of God; 5) the testimony of the saints; and 6) the anointing of the Holy Spirit.

Leaders also stressed the message of 1 John 6-7: “If we say that we have fellowship with Him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth; but if we walk in the light as He Himself is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His son cleanses us from all sin (NASB).” As was true in other spiritual awakenings in history (such as the Asbury Revival in Kentucky in 1970), people stood in front of each other and admitted their sins, no matter how embarrassing. The honesty cut deep into human pride and dealt a fatal blow against entrenched sin and religious hypocrisy.

After hearing more details about the East African Revival while I was in Uganda last week, I was convinced that this type of movement is the only thing that will pull the United States out of its current despair.

We must have a spiritual awakening, or we die. Political engineering, economic policies, government bailouts and stimulus packages will not save us. No politician, Democrat or Republican, will reverse our course toward destruction.

Our only hope is that a backslidden American church˜a church that is as smug, blind and lukewarm as the Laodiceans-˜will “be zealous and repent” (see Rev. 3:19).

What encourages me is that God, not man, initiated all the spiritual awakenings of the past˜including the First Great Awakening, which gave our country its historic Christian identity. Yes, we play our feeble part by praying, and we must storm heaven. Yes, awakenings come in response to our weak attempts to repent, and we must passionately seek a fresh baptism of holiness.

But we cannot manufacture revivals. [I disagree. God has been manufacturing a permanent revival for decades but the church refuses to be Holy Spirit led. God won’t make us repent and get right with those who have been hurt. He won’t make us follow Him. The Holy Spirit has been actively calling us to repent for decades. I know, because I have been one of those whom God has tried to speak through, and the resistance has been shockingly powerfully active and fierce, especially from church leaders. See my ‘Christians’ Cursing People Posts. The James-3 cursing is done mostly in secret (continuing to this day), but I’ve also been accused of being divisive while pleading for unity — Jesus’ heart-cry for us to be ‘ONE’ in Himself (John 17). At one point, I got so frustrated that I wasn’t spirit-led either. I ended up saying too much to those who would listen and had to apologize. The point is that God has wanted real Christianity throughout the church age, and perhaps a real revival 10 or 20 years ago (even just five) would have averted what is soon coming to our once-great nation. But it’s not too late to save ourselves spiritually, and maybe even then to some extent physically – editor, Jeff Fenske] Pentecostal fire comes from heaven alone. It is a sovereign blessing from a God who loves us and desires to rescue us from ourselves. We charismatics have generated a lot of our own sound and fury in the past 30 years, but much of what we have created is a shameful substitute for revival. We must become desperate for the real thing.

Today our movement is mired in the shallow waters of self-centered, carnal Christianity. May God mercifully send us our own version of Balokole. May gut-wrenching repentance and public confession of sin interrupt our trendy worship services. May this holy fire spread until the people of the United States see genuine Christians living the message we preach.

“No man is my enemy. My own hands imprison me” – Bono & Bob Dylan

“Love Rescue Me”
Written by Bono and Bob Dylan

Love rescue me
Come forth and speak to me
Raise me up and don’t let me fall
No man is my enemy
My own hands imprison me*

Love rescue me

“Love Rescue Me” is the eleventh track from U2’s 1988 album, Rattle and Hum. Sung by The Omagh Community Youth Choir (formed in October 1998 in the wake of the Omagh Bomb atrocity of August 15th 1998, Ireland) for a journey named Playing For Change [Peace Through Music], a multimedia movement to inspire, connect, and bring peace to the world through music.

* Jesus explains in Matthew 18 how the tormentors [demons have a right to] imprison us when we don’t actively forgive everyone from our entire hearts:

33 Shouldn’t you also have had mercy on your fellow servant, even as I had mercy on you?‘ 34 His lord was angry, and delivered him to the tormentors, until he should pay all that was due to him. 35 So my heavenly Father will also do to you, if you don’t each forgive your brother from your hearts for his misdeeds.”

When attacked & cursed, tune into your heart, tune into Love; take it cheerfully and say: 'Thank you, God.' In the end you get it all back many times over!

Transcribed by Jeff Fenske from The Alex Jones Show, 9/11/09

There’s always a price to pay. The old African proverb, what is it a Zulu proverb: ‘no good deed goes unpunished?’ [laughs] It’s true, but no good deed goes unrewarded as well.

Because I learned in my life the curses, the bad things people do to you, it always has a price up front. But if you take it cheerfully and say, ‘thank you, God that my enemies are attacking me,’ like Job, in the end you get it all back, many times over — when you tune into your heart, tune into Love, tune into your center.”

The Boot Camp Factor: The Hate & Anger Factory Where Men are Programmed to Kill and Then Become Our Dads?!! Our Pastors?!!!

Boot camp kills the conscience
so soldiers can do evil without
being convicted in their hearts

If possible, I usually try to find articles already written so I don’t have to reinvent the wheel. There must be great articles written on this subject, but I haven’t been able to find them. So I’ll share what’s on my heart.

I’ll start with some key texts.

Elders’ Qualifications according to 1 Timothy 3:

1 This is a true saying, If a man desire the office of a bishop, he desireth a good work. 2 A bishop [overseer or elder] then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behaviour, given to hospitality, apt to teach; 3 Not given to wine, no striker*, not greedy of filthy lucre; but patient, not a brawler….

* A striker doesn’t just strike with his hands, but James-3 curses people from his heart. See my ‘Christians’ Cursing People posts
King David was not allowed to build the temple because his hands were stained with blood. 1 Cor. 22:

7 David said to Solomon his son, “As for me, it was in my heart to build a house to the name of Yahweh my God. 8 But the word of Yahweh came to me, saying, ‘You have shed blood abundantly, and have made great wars. You shall not build a house to my name, because you have shed much blood on the earth in my sight. 9 Behold, a son shall be born to you, who shall be a man of rest. I will give him rest from all his enemies all around; for his name shall be Solomon, and I will give peace and quietness to Israel in his days. 10 He shall build a house for my name….

Does military mind-control programming disqualify church leaders? No, but: according to Galatians 5, true Christians have crucified their flesh and are now free from everything in the first list, here.

Only leaders who are truly called by God to lead and who have crucified their flesh (including the hate programming), exhibiting the fruit of the Spirit in this second list are truly qualified to lead God’s people.

19 Now the works of the flesh are obvious, which are: adultery, sexual immorality, uncleanness, lustfulness, 20 idolatry, sorcery, hatred, strife, jealousies, outbursts of anger, rivalries, divisions, heresies, 21 envyings, murders [he who hates his brother is a murderer], drunkenness, orgies, and things like these; of which I forewarn you, even as I also forewarned you, that those who practice such things will not inherit the Kingdom of God [not go to heaven, see 6:7-9].

22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faith, 23 gentleness, and self-control. Against such things there is no law. 24 Those who belong to Christ [true, Christians] have crucified the flesh with its passions and lusts [deprogrammed from the works of the flesh, above — NO HATE].

I just took a fabulous fine-art photography workshop in which the instructor said a couple of times that photographers who can’t cry shouldn’t be [art] photographers. Art photography should be from the heart, not just an exercise in logic.
And this would be true of great music too.

I was writing a friend, thinking about how there seems to be this big gap between men and women photographers in being able to shoot from the heart. Women can cry, but I can cry too.

What happened to men so many can no longer cry? Most aren’t born that way. How do men lose their ability to express sorrow and even joy with tears?

Boot camp? A large percentage of men have gone through boot camp. And a huge percentage of children have had fathers who went through boot camp. So what’s the big deal? We need to train men to fight, right?

We’ve seen the movies, the documentaries where they break recruits down to build them up — swearing in their face, telling young men they’re basically a piece of ____, and then telling them: “you’re a Marine!” “You’re a man now,” once they complete the mind-control program called boot camp.

But what just happened to those young men so many will no longer cry, and many will kill on command without question, without engaging the soul?
What happens when the recruits are sworn at, called trash?

I don’t know to what degree this happens anymore, but this is my theory. The drill sergeants teach the young recruits to hate. They teach them to have hate and anger for people, which is a reverse-Christian concept, and they teach these just-barely-not-boys that the enemy are gooks or some other derogatory, sub-human name.
Boys are being conditioned to not love anymore. Loyalty is not the same as love. Their hearts are hardened, and then these men return to civilian life and become husbands, fathers, and even pastors.

Paul said an elder cannot be a striker. How many boot-camp-affected pastors are free of the hate demons installed into them during boot camp or by a boot-camp-graduate Dad, teacher, whatever — pastor???

Anyone can be set free from any demon(s), including these boot camp ones.

nohate

Why have I had license plates that say NO HATE for 14 years? I found out that hate and unforgiveness were among the root causes of why people were getting hurt in the church I was attending, and this problem wasn’t being adequately addressed, or solved.

But this is also a community-wide situation. It’s one of the roots of the problem as well as one of the keys to the solution.

Why in the world did most pastors support the Bush/Cheney pro-immoral-war policies without question?

There are many reasons, but I think this boot-camp factor is hugely responsible. Most pastors aren’t even willing to research what these and many of the previous wars are all about. Perhaps they think this would show weakness, but in reality it would show Christlikeness.

“He who hates his brother is a murderer and does not have eternal life abiding in him.” How many men (including pastors) have sold their soul during boot camp and haven’t repented.

And look at the mess we’re in now. They won’t investigate what really happened on 9/11. They rubber stamped every immoral and unconstitutional act that President Bush did. And they wouldn’t support the true Christian, pro-life-for-adults-and-babies candidate, Ron Paul.

And now we’re sitting in this mess.

Please, if you have hate and anger in your heart, remember that we will not be forgiven unless we forgive even our enemies, no matter what the boot camp influenced pastors teach. What did Jesus teach? Would he have gone along with the hate indoctrination, or would he have remained free to love everyone no matter what?

We saw how he died, and how Stephen died. How many modern day pastors would forgive their enemies like Jesus and Stephen did? How many curse people whom merely just disagree with them, people who are trying to bring in peace?
We need a healing from this boot-camp induced hate.

It may be too late to restore America, but we can restore the church to actually doing the greatest two commandments, which are all about loving God with our all and all of our neighbors (including Al Qaeda) as ourselves.

Then we will be ONE as Jesus prayed we would be in John 17: ONE with each other and ONE in God, Himself, Who died so everyone could be set free. Matthew 5:

7 Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy.

8 Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.

9 Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called children of God.

Jesus said that only the pure in heart will see God. Only the peacemakers are truly children of God — Christians.

NO HATE.

Let that Dirty Thing Go, The Monster That Hides Inside, the demon that hold you back.

FREEeeeeeeeeeeeeeee———-DOM!!!!!!!!!!!

And “no John Waynes,” from part 21 of my “Let Us Be ‘ONE'” prophecy. Jesus:

A way that is right for a man is not My way. You must obey.

No heroes,
no John Waynes,
none that disobey,
thinking they are so cool.

I hope you see this, that the world can’t give you life. It’s not full, and pride will cease. Watch it get squashed when the end-times come, the final days the world will see. I will come with a sword, and few will recognize that I am the one who died for their sins, and be thankful, because then it will be too late. Now is the day of salvation. Now is the time to get ready, full of Me.

Strengthen your loins. Make haste to obey. Fill yourselves with righteousness for all to see. Then they will be glad, because you obeyed. Many will follow when the time is right.

Now many are weary. They mistrust. They judge without love. They need to respect My opinion. Then they can relax, once they are in Me—anger no more. Rebellion will cease.

A new way has come, leading many into victory, where they can stay in Me and never get out.

We can be ONE. Many will see it and be glad—for you obeyed.

Power to the Peaceful!

Who-Goes-To-Heaven Scriptures — Narrow is the Way

How the previous post, "What the Lord’s Prayer really says about FORGIVING…," came about

I thought I’d share how the previous post with the long title came about: What the Lord’s Prayer really says about FORGIVING. Jesus made it clear right after “Amen”: “IF YOU DON’T forgive…” vs. Luther’s Catechism: “God forgives WITHOUT CONDITION,” even “REVENGE!!!”
Recently, I was talking with a friend of mine, who also has a strong Lutheran background, about the who-really-goes-to-heaven topic. And I brought up the Lord’s Prayer. I was surprised to discover that she didn’t know that Jesus clarified the forgive us our trespasses as we forgive… line right after the Amen — so that we would all know.
So I thought maybe I should write a post about this, because perhaps there are many who have memorized the Lord’s Prayer but haven’t gleaned from the source material (Matthew) that Jesus kept right on going after the Amen: “For if you forgive…,” to make sure we understand what He means by “forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who sin against us” — that He really meant business. This is no trivial matter.
As I wrote the post, I thought: I’ll just check Luther’s Small Catechism to see if the part after the Amen is in there. I thought: probably not, which turned out to be correct. And I just now looked it up in Wikipedia [Does anyone know if Wikipedia is derived from wicked or wicca?] to make sure the the isn’t supposed to be capitalized in the Lord’s Prayer. Wikipedia outlines each phrase from the prayer while also not including the two verses after the Amen that are key to understanding the forgiving concept in the prayer.
So I found out for sure that the Small Catechism stopped with the Amen, with Luther actually calling this phrase The Conclusion. But I vaguely remembered Luther’s Large Catechism (not having read it in probably 35 years), and wondered if Martin Luther mentioned The Clarification (I’ll call it, verses 14 and 15, the two verses right after the Amen).
I discovered that he has a whole section explaining what he calls The Fifth Petition (“forgive us our trespasses as we forgive…”), and I include this in its entirety in the post. Reading it carefully, I was amazed to find that not only does Luther spin verses 14 and 15 into something other than what Jesus said, but he even included the revenge concept, which he seems to be so fond of, and attempts to justify it: in that we have much cause for doing it in our poor miserable lives; and because we’re already sealed and forgiven without condition anyway.
So I’m now sitting here, for the first time realizing that as a youth, I was formally taught from a book that professed that revenge is okay and that Jesus didn’t really mean that we must forgive others in order to go to heaven.
[Brainwashing; mind-control comes to mind: like how I see FOX News and so-called conservative talk-radio spinning evil as being good, and good as being evil. I document this deception with many different examples at ToBeFree.]
No wonder so many of us still need major deprogramming for us to become ONE, which is supposed to be normal for Christians, according to Jesus (John 17).
Notice, I include myself. The Bible is so amazingly clear if one reads it afresh, without bias, and with the Holy Spirit’s help. But the programming was so powerful! We were Lutherans, after all. We were taught to follow Luther without question — a man who didn’t really understand what real Christianity is.
Which is why many still respond to the question, are you a Christian? this way: “I’m Lutheran,” or “I’m Catholic.” We drank the Kool Aid as we were programmed to do.
Thank God I saw the light, decades ago, while reading the Bible on my own — though I’m convinced that somebody must have been praying for me, as the Holy Spirit helped me start to break free from the matrix.
But I still need more light to fully think and walk as a follower of Christ, Himself — Holy Spirit led — always walking in the love of Christ, manifested…!
May we be holy and walk free — breaking out of the traditional shackles, emerging as sons and daughters — unencumbered with disinformation — walking fully in truth and in God, having read the Bible again, to make sure — wishing each other well, having confessed our sins one to another, right with each other so we can be healed!!!!!!!
I can see us breaking free of the fog and into the light — on the mountain top where we can see clearly for miles and miles!!!
God bless you all!
May we be ONE in Christ — together — free — always!!!
Jeff : )

What the Lord’s Prayer really says about FORGIVING. Jesus made it clear right after “Amen”: “IF YOU DON’T forgive…” VS. Luther’s Catechism: “God forgives WITHOUT CONDITION,” forgiving even “REVENGE”!!!

Everyone who is familiar with the Lord’s Prayer should know that forgiving others is a salvation issue, for Jesus expanded verse 12 in verses 14 and 15 (right after the ‘Amen’).

But many of us only memorized 9b-13. In effect, we were only taught soundbites. And that’s how the great deception has been pulled off. Many don’t even know that verses 14 and 15 exist!

We must be holy — experientially — not just ‘legally’ (a theological term that is currently being used to deceive many).

The Bible teaches: we are only legally, in-God’s-sight holy if we’re actually living holy — right with God and people — enabled and empowered, given GRACE by the Holy Spirit to do so.

According to the Bible, we must forgive. We have no excuses. Forgiving others is a big deal!

May we be ONE in Him!

<< Matthew 6:9-15 >>
King James Bible

9 After this manner therefore pray ye:

Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.

10 Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.

11 Give us this day our daily bread.

12 And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.

13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil:

For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.

14 For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you:

15 But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.
.

<< Matthew 6:9-15 >>
World English Bible

Pray like this:

‘Our Father in heaven, may your name be kept holy.

Let your Kingdom come. Let your will be done, as in heaven, so on earth.

Give us today our daily bread.

Forgive us our debts, as we also forgive our debtors.

Bring us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.

For yours is the Kingdom, the power, and the glory forever. Amen.’

For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you don’t forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.

Okay, that’s pretty clear, right? But verses 14 and 15 weren’t included in what I had to memorize in the materials I was taught from in Lutheran school and in confirmation class. We were taught our sins are forgiven, period. And that’s what Luther taught in his Large Catechism.
This is how Martin Luther spins Jesus’ words to mean something He didn’t say.
From: Martin Luther’s Large Catechism, translated by Bente and Dau by Martin Luther, not copyrighted.

The Fifth Petition.

And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.

This part now relates to our poor miserable life, which, although we have and believe the Word of God, and do and submit to His will, and are supported by His gifts and blessings is nevertheless not without sin. For we still stumble daily and transgress because we live in the world among men who do us much harm and give us cause for impatience, anger, revenge [James-3 cursing? – ed.], etc. Besides, we have Satan at our back, who sets upon us on every side, and fights (as we have heard) against all the foregoing petitions, so that it is not possible always to stand firm in such a persistent conflict.

Martin Luther believed that we could not overcome serious sins like persistent anger and revenge [Luther actually stated that he intentionally cursed people daily], though the Bible in many places teaches that we must overcome [see: Who-Goes-To-Heaven Scriptures — Narrow is the Way]. The Holy Spirit enables and empowers us, gives us the grace to overcome temptations, to the degree that Paul taught: “No temptation has taken you except what is common to man. God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted above what you are able, but will with the temptation also make the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.” (1 Cor. 10:13)
Now Luther goes into his once-saved-always-saved theme. He taught that we are forgiven no matter what we do, no matter how many and serious are our sins. So he concludes that Jesus didn’t really mean what He clearly said. Jesus’ admonition to forgive others is merely to help us know inside what is true in reality, that we are already forgiven—because we can never be unforgiven.
According to Luther, we don’t have to forgive others in order to be forgiven (Jesus made sure we understood  this is what He meant in verse 12 by his emphatic statements in verses 14 and 15), we forgive others only so we can “obtain consolation to comfort the conscience.”

Therefore there is here again great need to call upon God and to pray: Dear Father, forgive us our trespasses. Not as though He did not forgive sin without and even before our prayer (for He has given us the Gospel, in which is pure forgiveness before we prayed or ever thought about it). But this is to the intent that we may recognize and accept such forgiveness. For since the flesh in which we daily live is of such a nature that it neither trusts nor believes God, and is ever active in evil lusts and devices, so that we sin daily in word and deed, by commission and omission by which the conscience is thrown into unrest, so that it is afraid of the wrath and displeasure of God, and thus loses the comfort and confidence derived from the Gospel; therefore it is ceaselessly necessary that we run hither and obtain consolation to comfort the conscience again.

So, according to Luther, if we willfully sin sins that lead to death, and feel guilty as a result, so that we lose our comfort and confidence before God, even being afraid of the wrath and displeasure of God, this is only an illusion. This fear is unwarranted (even though Hebrews 10:26-39 and many other scriptures say the opposite), and forgiving others helps us feel right with God again; even though, in reality we were right with Him all along.
Jesus said the opposite. We must forgive to be forgiven, and that’s why we feel right after doing so, because then we are right. Martin Luther was clearly a false teacher who was deceived, himself, and tragically, the false doctrines he taught are still widely accepted today!

But this should serve God’s purpose of breaking our pride and keeping us humble. For in case any one should boast of his godliness and despise others, God has reserved this prerogative to Himself, that the person is to consider himself and place this prayer before his eyes, and he will find that he is no better than others, and that in the presence of God all must lower their plumes, and be glad that they can attain forgiveness. And let no one think that as long as we live here he can reach such a position that he will not need such forgiveness. In short, if God does not forgive without ceasing, we are lost.

That’s precisely Jesus’ point. God does not forgive without ceasing, so many are indeed lost, having believed this lie.
We must obey — Jesus.
We don’t have to obey — Luther.
God’s forgiveness is conditional — Jesus.
“God forgives freely and without condition” — Luther (says below).

It is therefore the intent of this petition that God would not regard our sins and hold up to us what we daily deserve, but would deal graciously with us, and forgive, as He has promised, and thus grant us a joyful and confident conscience to stand before Him in prayer. For where the heart is not in right relation towards God, nor can take such confidence, it will nevermore venture to pray. But such a confident and joyful heart can spring from nothing else than the [certain] knowledge of the forgiveness of sin.

But there is here attached a necessary, yet consolatory addition: As we forgive. He has promised that we shall be sure that everything is forgiven and pardoned, yet in the manner that we also forgive our neighbor. For just as we daily sin much against God and yet He forgives everything through grace, so we, too, must ever forgive our neighbor who does us injury, violence, and wrong, shows malice toward us, etc. If, therefore you do not forgive, then do not think that God forgives you; but if you forgive, you have this consolation and assurance, that you are forgiven in heaven, not on account of your forgiving, — for God forgives freely and without condition, out of pure grace, because He has so promised, as the Gospel teaches, — but in order that He may set this up for our confirmation and assurance for a sign alongside of the promise which accords with this prayer, Luke 6, 37: Forgive, and ye shall be forgiven. Therefore Christ also repeats it soon after the Lord’s Prayer, and says, Matt. 6,14: For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you, etc.

In the Lord’s Prayer, Jesus clearly gives a condition to us in order for our sins to be forgiven: “as we forgive others who trespass against us.” “For if you don’t forgive….” But this didn’t fit into Luther’s forgiven-no-matter-what theology in which “God forgives freely and without condition.” So Luther concluded that James shouldn’t be scripture because it talks about the necessity of obedience, and Jesus can’t really mean what He is really saying — because it doesn’t fit into the once-infant-baptized-always-saved (OBAS?) formula. Luther turns Jesus’ crystal clear condition that Jesus emphasized after the ‘Amen’ into an unnecessary mental exercise, “a sign” that merely helps us appease our consciences.
We don’t really have to forgive because it’s all ‘automatic,’ anyway. Though Jesus clearly said we need to. This is the deception: OSAS — Once-saved-always-saved.
Jesus said it clearly here and elsewhere, as did Paul, John, and almost every book in the New Testament. We can’t keep willfully sinning sins that lead to death: lust, hatred (unforgiveness on steroids), lying, envy, etc. and be right enough with God and man in order to go to heaven. “For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are children of God” — Paul in Romans 8:14. It’s not automatic. There are strings. We must abide in Christ, walk in love, forgiving, having pure hearts of gold.
Jesus in Mathew 6:

14 For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you:

15 But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.

Try teaching forgiving others out of the NIV, the New International Version. Many of the key texts are either altered or missing.

If American evangelicals truly were a forgiving people as Jesus taught, possessing Jesus’ “blessed are the peacemakers” heart, many wouldn’t have been deceived by Fox News into supporting reverse-Christian, post-9/11 policies that are by-design destroying America in just about every way imaginable.

America’s getting jacked, and the NIV is at the heart of the problem. Destroy God’s written word and America’s soul is destroyed, people stumbling around, directionless, as if sheep without a Shepherd—vulnerable to attack—defenseless — ‘had’ — ie.: Why 9/11? | Forgiveness is the Key to Repentance.

KRS One Embodies His Stop the Violence Message After Fan Throws Bottle Toward Stage, Injuring Performer and Inciting Intense Reaction from Crowd

For Immediate Release
April 19, 2008

Hip Hop artist and activist, KRS One, demonstrates incredible restraint after overzealous fan throws bottle at a New Haven, CT nightclub, striking the icon in the face and fracturing his right hand. By doctor’s orders, all performance and lecture dates have been postponed until after May 1, 2008.

In the midst of an intense, multi-city mission in support of the Stop the Violence Movement, KRS One has been visiting some of the nation’s roughest neighborhoods, spreading his message of nonviolence to those who need to hear it most. During his latest stop in Chicago, the Teacha visited tragedy-plagued Crane High School, released the star-studded “Self Construction” single on Power 92.3 radio and held a press conference to promote peace with Illinois State Representative John Fritchey. His New Haven, CT stop brought him to the Toad’s Place nightclub where his true Stop the Violence message was tested.

Standing firm on his platform of peace, KRS One calmed the crowd and security staff, which came to his defense after a fan lost control of himself, lashing out in anger by throwing a bottle in the direction of the stage. After being struck in the face and hand and still holding the microphone, the legendary performer pleaded, “Let it go. Let it go. When negativity comes your way, let it go. Though KRS One expressed his preference that the fan not be charged, his management team and the staff of the nightclub insisted upon an arrest for legal purposes related to the unfortunate impending postponement of future engagements.

Doctor Jeff Midgley of Yale-New Haven Hospital instructed the performer to postpone all previously scheduled commitments  until he rehydrates and his fractured hand heals. [site lists 5 such events – ed.]

‘Let Us Be ONE’ Prophecy Continues 10/8/08: "It’s too late to reverse what’s been done for my men have been rejected … Now is the time to overcome and get right with all … Your heart will swell with love and it will be easy to remain in Me when others are on the boat with you"

[UPDATE] My thoughts, five years later, September, 2013:

The timing of this is still very interesting to me. I heard this prophecy on October 10, 2008. Only four months earlier in June, the evangelicals overwhelmingly chose warmonger and pro-choice John McCain over the peacemaker and pro-rule-of-law-Constitutionalist Ron Paul, who believes we really are supposed to love our neighbors as ourselves, from those still in the womb to our so-called ‘enemies’ overseas — everyone — as Jesus taught. War should always be the very last resort: “not by might, nor by power, but by My Spirit, says the Lord.” We should draw near to God and He will draw near to US, giving us wisdom as to what to do. Jesus said: “blessed are the PEACEMAKERS, for they shall be called CHILDREN OF GOD.” The evangelicals supported the Bush/Cheney wars and torture without question, as they gutted our Constitution, turning us into the police state that is ever increasing. Even our news and media is largely controlled. But most evangelicals still won’t investigate what really happened on 9/11, which is shocking to me. Why not pull back the curtain and see reality the way it really is? What are we waiting for?

When I saw the evangelicals in South Carolina boo Ron Paul in January 2012 for saying we should go by the Golden Rule, it was even more clear that America is finished. We have lost our soul, and by the time we get it back, Satan’s plans will be so advanced, because many evangelicals actually voted for evil, led by the pastors who aren’t abiding in Christ enough to lead the people into actually doing the greatest two commandments, without which we can’t be real, overcoming Christians.

So I still follow what is really going on politically at my other site and on Facebook, but ‘ONE’ happening is my passion. ‘ONE’ is Jesus passion, which He stated in John 17 — “that the world will know.” When ‘ONE’ happens, we’ll be able to rest in Him with each other no matter what happens. And we better tune into God as to where to live and what to do next, because serious judgment is coming on America.

Pride comes before destruction, and an arrogant spirit before a fall.”  – Proverbs 16:18

We could have easily avoided this disaster. All it would have taken was for one church to really walk in love, as the Holy Spirit was trying to help them do. But they wouldn’t listen to those of us who had clear words of insight and correction, like this one that I gave to a pastor way back in 1990, which still applies today:

My 1990 Key-to-Revival Prophecy: “There is might and there is power and there is glory, but it is being withheld until these relationships are made right, until we love our brother enough to…”

Pastors had the template. They knew exactly what they were supposed to do. This 1990 prophecy, above is just one of many. And then instead of obeying, they introduced seeker services and man-made programs, and once-saved-always-saved.
So all these years later: let’s get this thing started. If we build it He will come. And we will be so happy in Christ!!!

And we can’t stop the end of America, now, but we can postpone what’s coming.
This is what happened. The church opened the sin gate, letting the demons in, shut their ears to God’s voice, leaving the sin gate open, pacified by the once-saved-always-saved false doctrine.

The Red Gate Prophecy — What If I Open It Just a Little Bit? The believers, not the non-believers, have opened the gate to sin, which is why this country has deteriorated

Ephesians 4:11-16 — we can still do it!!! It should be front and center, along with Jesus’ prayer of ‘ONE’ happening in John 17, and the greatest two commandments — with the greatest being the greatest.
Jesus wants to be head of His church. Will we let Him?
Then “our hearts will swell with love…!”

God’s Remedy for James-3 Cursing & Partysville in Today’s Church is James 4 — Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts. Let your laughter be turned to mourning… Humble yourselves and He will exalt you!

Let Us Be ONE, Part 34 of 34

I received this prophecy totally unexpectedly while responding to this comment by Maria in New Zealand.

I did my best to only write what I was hearing. There was only one line in the word that I consciously stumbled at, so I removed it here (marked by *). For those interested, it’s still in the original, which I left completely alone except for formatting.

This prophecy is the main reason I believe conditions will only get worse in America, that it’s too late to reverse America’s collapse. There was a season when we could have reversed what is to come, God says. But the people He sent to warn us ‘Christians’ have been rejected. So now it’s time to focus on becoming ONE with each other, under God (Jesus’ heart-cry for us in John 17)— to no longer do our own thing, the Holy Spirit says in this prophecy.

In Christ and right with each other, we can soar, no matter how bad things get in the natural:

It doesn’t matter what the stock market will do, for holiness will abound and you will be ONE, living together, helping one another through the difficult times ahead.

It’s too late to reverse what’s been done, for My men have been rejected. There was a season.

Now is the time to overcome and get right with all those around, so you can be holy and set apart.

FORGIVENESS will reign from your hearts, and we will be together, embracing for eternity. You in Me and I in you. It should always be this way: resting, relaxed, righteousness ABOUNDINGyour hearts GLAD! …

Your heart will swell with love, and it will be easy to remain in Me when others are on the BOAT with you.

Interestingly, the Holy Spirit uses the word ‘boat’ 8 times in this prophecy (which I capitalize, because i find this so unique). And anyone who knows me, knows that I’m a pretty straight forward thinker who rarely uses vivid imagery and metaphors in the way I write and speak. Poetry class was extremely hard for me, but here, nautical imagery flows easily from God.

It started with me writing this to Maria on Oct. 8, 2008:

Gandhi on Forgiving: “Nobody can hurt me without my permission”

“Nobody can hurt me without my permission.”

Dennis Cramer: "Most ‘Christians’ curse for the purpose of retaliation and vindication … ‘Christian’ leaders are even more vulnerable"

Transcribed by Jeff Fenske from the Cornerstone Television program, Getting Together, probably in the late ’90s. Possibly still available as an audio tape—program #80416.

Dennis Cramer, author of Breaking Christian Curses, said this about about the current James-3 cursing epidemic:

I’ve learned from experience that most Christians curse for the purpose of retaliation and vindication, because they’re proud, arrogant. They’ve known some measure of success, and they may even be skilled in the things of God.

In fact, that’s why sometimes Christian leaders are even more vulnerable to being able to launch curses—because they’ve been entrusted with spiritual skills, you see. And if we don’t use those spiritual skills in a constructive manner, if we use them in a destructive manner, like the disciples tried to, then, of course, we as leaders are at a greater risk.

So I have found that most Christians, based on a self righteous mentality, a proud spirit, and unbrokenness in their lives, believe that they’re so important to God that they can retaliate. And they use those spiritual weapons that were supposed to be used on the Devil against other Christians.

………………

The host asked:

What was your response to these people, the people that placed this curse over you? … What’s the correct response?

Dennis Cramer answered:

What my response was and the correct response weren’t the same, at first.

I did everything wrong. I was bitter; I was angry; I was frustrated; I was upset; I was hurt; I lashed back; I broke every rule in the Book.

Was I the victim, absolutely? But was I responsible for my sinful behavior, absolutely. I was wrong. I made every mistake possible. But eventually, God said, now, the real key to your release is to forgive them. And that’s what really did more for me than anything else—more than rebuking, and using the name of Jesus, and quoting scriptures, and having other people pray with me.

As I forgave, and as I loved—and listen to me: as I began to pray for them—man, I was completely freed!

That was the biggest weapon of my warfare. I began to pray for and bless those that cursed me. And that, more than anything else, set me free.

Have-We-Forgiven Gauge: "If There is Pain In a Memory There is Bitterness"

.

“If there is pain in a memory there is bitterness.”

– Art Mathias

.

From: Wellspring Ministries, Anchorage, Alaska

If there is any emotional pain in a situation or memory, then we know that some degree of bitterness is present. Only His precepts of forgiveness and repentance can remove the anger, resentment, shame or guilt in our memories. Our book Biblical Foundations of Freedom leads the reader through a process of recognizing and dealing with anger, resentment, jealousy and envy, rejection, fear and the occult.

Medical science and psychology demonstrate in thousands of clinical trials the way in which negative emotions affect our health. In His Own Image explains how our brain/nervous system, endocrine (hormones) system and immune systems are affected by many different negative emotions. This is a fascinating study that will open your eyes to the causes of most of our diseases.

As people come before the Lord in repentance and forgiveness, destroying the lies of Satan, and gaining victory through choosing to live according to God’s will in their lives, most emotional and physical diseases are healed and bodies return to peace and proper function. This restoration and healing is true Biblical freedom.

Randy Stonehill: "I Used to Dream of Chasing Vengeance"

Gods Of Men
by Randy Stonehill

[…]

And I used to dream of chasing vengeance
All my ENEMIES would crawl and sweat.
Well my HAPPINESS was drained from reliving all the pain
Now I’m learning to FORGIVE and FORGET*.

[Chorus]
As the world, keeps turning ’round,
You either learn to bend with the wind or it knocks you down.
Turn your back on the gods of men
And the Lord, who is true, will give LIFE back to you again.

FORGIVENESS Brings REVIVAL

From: Revival School (Andrew Strom)
FORGIVENESS Brings REVIVAL
-by Tony Langton.
A few days ago a minister friend of mine traveled to Kentucky to
preach in a church. Shortly before he arrived, the pastor’s wife
was stricken with illness. She requested prayer for healing, but
before she was prayed for, a man in the church asked her some
important questions. He asked, “When did this illness start and
what was happening in your life when you got sick?” She
answered by saying her illness started about the time a major
incident occurred in their church daycare, in which she was
involved. The Lord revealed to this woman that she had critically
judged some people involved in the daycare incident. She
repented of this sin and was healed
, which set the stage for
what God was going to do next.
Later my minister friend showed up to teach, among other things,
about the crucial need to forgive those who had wronged them
so they could be right with God
. The Lord moved there in a
remarkable way as the Holy Spirit uncovered unforgiveness in
the leaders and the congregation
. Many church people there
were convicted that God wanted to clear up all the relational
“viruses” before God could descend upon them in power.
My friend said that he personally prayed with approximately 40
people who were seeking repentance and wanting to make things
right with others
in a congregation of about 150 folks. This is the
beginning of a true revival
. I believe there will be an increased
movement of God in the future, but much of it will be preceded by
a time of great adversity where everything that can be shaken
will be shaken. In the middle of this crisis I believe there will be
an outpouring of God’s Spirit
. The Lord is giving His church the
forewarning so that we can have a song of praise in our hearts
beforehand and be prepared to help others.
Are there any relationships that you need to clear up?

[WordPOWER!] Philippians 2: Loving Others More than Ourselves to Love Others as Much?

Is this possibly a significant key to being able to forgive everyone, everywhere, 100% of the time, from our entire heart, to be free??!!! (Mt. 18)
Others’ happiness should at least be as important (the second greatest commandment), which perhaps is easier to achieve (of course, via God’s grace, His enablement for us to be able love even our greatest enemies) by considering others even more important….

“Love is when the other person’s happiness
is more important than your own.”

The Sahara Version

Paul thought of it this way: “consider others better than yourselves.”

Philippians 2:1 If there is therefore any exhortation in Christ, if any consolation of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any tender mercies and compassion, 2 make my joy full, by being like-minded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind; 3 doing nothing through rivalry or through conceit, but in humility, each counting others better than himself; 4 each of you not just looking to his own things, but each of you also to the things of others. 5 Have this in your mind, which was also in Christ Jesus, 6 who, existing in the form of God, didn’t consider equality with God a thing to be grasped, 7 but emptied himself, taking the form of a servant, being made in the likeness of men. 8 And being found in human form, he humbled himself, becoming obedient to death, yes, the death of the cross. 9 Therefore God also highly exalted him….

12 So then, my beloved, even as you have always obeyed, not only in my presence, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling [by obeying in this way]. 13 For it is God who works in you [the Holy Spirit enables us to love others unconditionally from our heart] both to will and to work, for his good pleasure.

Is this perhaps also one of the greatest keys to being safe to not fall from grace, regarding salvation—because we always consider others better—so we succeed at loving each other as much—fulfilling the second greatest commandment?!!!

Jimmy Cliff: "Forgive them Lord, they know not what they've done"

Willy Nelson is also singing this Jimmy Cliff song, The Harder They Fall, which has Jesus-like words of total release of others—which is far too rare especially in ‘Christian’ music. So far, I’m finding the most powerful forgiving lyrics in reggae.
In this song, I’m not sure how Godly is the intention of the rest of the lyrics, but if someone is truly trying to keep us down when we’re doing right, forgiving them from our whole heart is the proper response—even when they James-3 curse us—wishing evil on us, mustering it on us from their hearts with a vengeance!
Love everybody! They are not the enemy!

Well, the officers are tryin’ to keep me down:
Trying to drive me underground.
And they think that they have got the battle won:
I say: “Forgive them Lord, they know not what they’ve done.”

[WordPOWER!] Romans 12: Repay No One Evil for Evil — Don't Curse — Give Place to God's Wrath

We need to fully trust that God will deal with people totally fairly at the appropriate time.
It’s serious sin for us to step into His vengeance shoes that only fit Him, being all knowing and totally just!
It’s not our job to withhold forgiveness or to wish evil on anyone!

Romans 12:

14 Bless those who persecute you; bless, and don’t curse.

15 Rejoice with those who rejoice. Weep with those who weep. 16 Be of the same mind one toward another. Don’t set your mind on high things, but associate with the humble. Don’t be wise in your own conceits.

17 Repay no one evil for evil. Respect what is honorable in the sight of all men. 18 If it is possible, as much as it is up to you, be at peace with all men.

19 Don’t seek revenge yourselves, beloved, but give place to God’s wrath. For it is written, “Vengeance belongs to me; I will repay, says the Lord.”

20 Therefore “If your enemy is hungry, feed him. If he is thirsty, give him a drink; for in doing so, you will heap coals of fire on his head.”

21 Don’t be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

John Tesh & Friends: How Important is FORGIVENESS in a Relationship? | FORGIVING: Our GREATEST OPPORTUNITY to SHOW the LOVE of Christ!

Transcribed by Jeff Fenske from TBN, 6/19/08

John Tesh: This brings us to the biggest topic we have not yet discussed. It actually happens to be a topic on the radio show as well. Cause Duke University studied this, and they have empirical data to show that if you want to lower your blood pressure, if you want to cure depression, if you want to live an average of seven years longer, you need to do this one thing.

It is one of the most difficult things in the world to do. For some reason we wrestle with it. People die without being able to accomplish it. It is forgiveness.

And I want to know from our experts, here, how important is forgiveness in a relationship? How can you practice it? How can you get to it? What’s the pathway?

Francis Chan (Pastor): It’s huge, because Biblically, we pray like the Lord’s prayer, which just about everyone in the world knows. We say, “forgive us our debts as we forgive our….” We’re saying, “God, forgive me in the same way as I forgive someone else.” So this is huge! You’re saying, “God, okay, so if I’m only going to forgive a person this much,” I’m saying, “God, forgive me that much also.”

Gary Smalley (relationship counselor/speaker/author): I really think that’s the key, because it’s so much easier for me to even verbalize the words, “I forgive someone,” because I recognize all the things God’s forgiven me, all the things I’ve done in life to offend people throughout my entire 68 years of life. And so it’s a lot easier for me to forgive.

But also, I forgive because I know that when someone does something to me to offend me and I feel the pain, I know from scripture—one of my favorite verses on earth is 2 Corinthians 12:9 & 10, 2 Corinthians 12:9 & 10, because it says, “when we go through insults and harm and difficulties and hardships and all the junk we go through, and we get offended by people, God’s grace is always sufficient. His grace is his love and power he gives us. And we get filled up with more of his love and power when and after we’ve been offended.

So it’s pretty easy, it’s easier for me to forgive someone when I realize that I’ve been gifted by them in a sense. But this has taken me, you know, years, to get to this place.

John Tesh: But then you have a woman who comes into therapy who’s been cheated on by her husband five times, and she’s been in therapy with you guys. You say, well, “you gotta get to forgiveness, you gotta get to forgiveness.” When is it enough? When is it over?

Amy Smalley (Gary’s daughter-in-law, marriage counselor): It’s really hard, I think, sometimes, to get ‘forgiveness,’ because…sometimes people will interpret forgiveness as them saying, “you know, it was okay for you to do that to me. It was okay for you to commit adultery. It was okay for you to physically assault me. It was okay.” And that’s not what forgiveness is all about. Forgiveness is about not holding that blame, or not basically keeping that energy. Because unforgiveness takes maintenance. You know, harboring that bitterness and all that stuff, it takes energy.

And it’s basically: forgiveness says, “I release you from that. I release you, and I will move on.” And when you can phrase it, and we can really get it in our heads that that’s what forgiveness is about. Yes, it’s about releasing that other person, but a lot of it is about releasing us.

John Tesh: And if there’s no repentance there, if someone is harming you, if someone continues to cheat on you, I don’t have the scripture in front of me, but I’m assuming the Bible does not say well ‘stick around and be abused.’

Michael Smalley (Gary’s son, marriage counselor): No, it certainly doesn’t. But I think sometimes people’s biggest block towards forgiveness is in fact they don’t realize that forgiveness is for them. We’re not talking about reconciliation. Reconciliation means the guy is apologizing, he’s saying ‘I want to get my life right.’ He’s confessing that sin to Christ, and forgiveness is me and for me. Because here’s the deal: what Christ taught us is that Christ literally can’t live with you if you have unforgiveness in your heart. This is not a little thing we’re talking about. I mean the two are totally incompatible.

Gary Smalley: We are in darkness.

Michael Smalley: We are in total darkness, and you are literally building a wall, a cell, a Fort Knox of your soul that prevents you from that relationship with Christ that you so desperately need for all the other junk going on. And the saddest part is that the only thing unforgiveness hurts—because, see, we think “if I hold unforgiveness, I think I’m punishing her”—the only person I’m punishing is me.

Gary Smalley: Unforgiveness is drinking poison and hoping the other person gets sick.

John Tesh: Wow, that’s deep.

Francis Chan: I was going to say it’s our one opportunity to really show the love of Christ. Because it’s when she’s [pointing to his wife, Lisa] loving me I’m loving her back, that’s not the love of Christ. The love of Christ is when you’re nailed to a cross and you’re saying, “forgive them, they know not what they do.” Now, I’m showing the world the love of Christ.

And people get so angry when someone offends them. But I’m going, man, that’s your only chance to show Christian love on this earth is when you are offended and you love them in return. Because Jesus says, “if you love those who love you back, big deal, anyone can do that. But you’ll be my sons when you love those who hurt you, who hate you, your enemies.”

And so I tell couples: what a great opportunity. This may be the greatest opportunity of your life to show the love of Jesus by forgiving your husband or forgiving your wife.

Francis Chan left his 1600 member church to reassess. “There’s a LACK OF PEACE in so many people … WE PRETEND.” “There is this NARROW ROAD … FEW will find it.” “Let’s go back to what THE TRUTH has always been…and has NEVER BEEN POPULAR.”

Betrayal hurts. And when we fall into the pit of betrayal, we come out with some nasty bruises and residue on our lives. The same thing happened to Joseph. But when Joseph crawled out of the pit of betrayal, he didn’t let the residue ruin the rest of his life.

In this message, Ed Young traces the life of Joseph through climbing out of the pit and in to the next phase of his life. And as we learn how he responded to the betrayal from his brothers, we learn how Joseph’s loyalty allowed him to breakthrough the bonds of betrayal time and time again.

Why 9/11? | Forgiveness is the Key to Repentance — "Do you not know that I lift My hand of protection when My people are far away?"

Let Us Be ONE, Part 6 of 33

Why 9/11? | Forgiveness is the Key to Repentance
There is fear in My people — a fear that is great. You need not dismay, for I am with you. I am in everything you do, non-stop. I never cease.
Feel My hurt, imagine the pain, when you go your own way. I am in you, waiting. Let’s be one. Let’s do it.
There is another thing: a disaster has struck. People have been hurt, suicide bombings attacking towers. Why?
Do you not know that I lift My hand of protection when My people are far away?
We are one; we need not be far away. There is a way that seems right to a man. Disaster will result unless we forgive.
See the fallen; see them rise up and be refreshed as you give them a kiss, a holy kiss from above, pulling them up, giving them aid when they are down.
Let Me be in control; let Me lead your life. Do not be full of error, wondering this or that, going to and fro, not sure of which direction, being unable to forgive. Forgiveness is the key to repentance.
I forgave. I hung there and gave My life so you can have freedom. I hurt so you can walk in humility and be refreshed.
You must take it and run, the precious gift of forgiveness, but not just for yourself, for others.
Forgive and be free.
