Good, quick description.
Please be careful with Michael Brown’s teaching on who goes to heaven. He doesn’t teach “narrow is the way” anymore, and also pushes “Christian” Zionism hard (says to support what Talmudic, still anti-Christ Israel does. Never warns us…).
Most of what he says here is good, but his idea that the apostles were speaking in Armenian in Acts 2 and not in tongues is bizarre.
Biblically speaking, tongues are mainly people’s personal prayer language in which the Holy Spirit speaks through people mysteries that “no one understands,” which builds up the speaker.
The most popular, current false teaching says it can only be an Acts-2 experience in which foreigners understand, which the rest of the texts clearly refute.
Michael Brown mentions the blessing with the spirit aspect (verses 16 and 17).
I would add that I believe a main reason that Christians are built up when praying in tongues is because tongues is often perfectly praying against evil spirits, perhaps to angels in their language, who then deal with the demons. And this may be why Paul says tongues are praying in the language of men and angels in 1 Cor. 13:1. Praying in the Spirit can set us and others FREE!

Irenaeus, who traveled widely (Gaul, Italy, Asia) and his contemporaries (“we”) had themselves been witnesses of the phenomenon as practiced by “many” and in “all kinds of languages,” as he attests in AD 180. Tertullian states that the “interpretation of tongues” was present in his group.

In like manner we do also hear many brethren in the Church, who possess prophetic gifts, and those who through the Spirit speak all kinds of languages, and bring to light for the general benefit the hidden things of men, and declare the mysteries of God…[5]

Many good points, and mostly true, like: we don’t need a church leader to baptize us in water, and we all should be baptized after we’re born-again.
But: following righteous, biblically qualified leaders as they follow the Lord and help us be led by the Holy Spirit would be a good thing — if there were any. There will be….
Also, we don’t have to wait to speak in tongues, just do it. It’s really simple once we’re born-again. Just speak the words that are in your mouth whatever they are.

Really important; though, some parts may be confusing. Having prayed in tongues many thousands of hours since 1981, and having studied this in-depth myself, I’d be glad to answer any questions.

Having had thousands of confirmations, I personally believe that the main purpose of praying in tongues is to deal with demons in a way that we don’t have to see what’s actually going on — because if we saw the demons we’re dealing with we’d probably freak!

I was thinking about this video this morning, while praying specifically for a number of people. Many are BOUND by actual demons, and praying in the Spirit for people can help FREE them.
And many wish (pray/James-3 curse) that people would be against people, which happens to me many times every day. When we pray for the bullies the people they have cursed get FREE!!! I believe this could be easily clinically proven someday.
I’ve been praying in the Spirit for people since the early ‘80s.
One of the great deceptions in these last days is the widespread ignoring of the effect that demons have on people, which is totally unlike what was taught and practiced in the New Testament. The result is that most Christians now have many demons in them, affecting them directly, even making people sick and lethargic, which I prove can happen here:

I believe that’s why Paul prayed in tongues more than anyone, to get FREE. He was a point man who was James-3 cursed a lot. This prophecy partially describes what’s going on and ways to get free:

I’ve been pushing for a permanent Asbury to happen, ONE can happen, perhaps starting here in Anchorage, once key people get right with those they’ve hurt — especially one key person, who seems to be holding up this FREEDOM fest. I don’t know what he’s waiting for. I’d be scared to death to die with guilt on my conscience.
Jesus said we need to reconcile (Mt. 5 & Jn. 17). Paul did it (Acts 24:16):
“Herein I also practice *always* having a conscience void of offense toward God and men.” (Acts 24:16)

A friend sent me this video in which a Dale M. Sides talks about praying in tongues TO BE FREE!!!!!!! I’ve prayed in tongues MANY THOUSANDS OF HOURS, since discovering in the early ’80s that my battles really were with evil spirits inside of me, and praying in tongues is 100% effective in driving them out. Then it’s easy to go COLD TURKEY to the lust demons (“Don’t give the Devil a place” — Paul in Ephesians), etc..
Actively forgiving others is another big key, but this one is hardly ever discussed. God gave us this gift because He doesn’t want us to be able to see the demons and fully understand what’s going on. We would freak if we knew — they’re that ugly — attached to us, driving sin!
Praying in tongues is awesome! And we can even pray for others this way, which I do every day.
I would have been dead many years ago had I not discovered the effectiveness of this gift and used it.
Paul said he prayed in tongues more than anyone else. Why was that? He was a big target; was James-3 cursed a lot! The more we stand up for God the more we need to pray.
Many need to pray just so they can even stand up for God and what is right, living holy until we see Jesus face to Face!

Having prayed in tongues many thousands of hours for 33 years, I believe praying in tongues is mostly about freeing from evil spirits, both the prayer and those prayed for. Because so few ‘Christians’ are daily praying in the Spirit, those of us who do have to pray more — and it isn’t enough. In the big picture, Satan’s kingdom is moving stronger than God’s, and America is falling into a trap, history repeating itself, again.
Christianity isn’t that hard, but we must do what the Bible says to be free, which also includes holding as a goal and implementing Ephesians 4:11-16, by the way.
American churches have substituted slick, “seeker friendly” presentations and man-made programs for what God clearly says to do.
We need to be like little children, doing the simple things we’re called to do that make the profound difference.
God has given us these gifts to be used here on Earth, now. In heaven, they won’t be needed (1 Cor. 13).

The Azusa Street Revival was a Pentecostal revival meeting that took place in Los Angeles, California and was led by William J. Seymour, an African American preacher. It began with a meeting on April 14, 1906 at the African Methodist Episcopal Church and continued until roughly 1915.
The revival was characterized by speaking in tongues, dramatic worship services, and inter-racial mingling. The participants received criticism from secular media and Christian theologians for behaviors considered to be outrageous and unorthodox, especially at the time. Today, the revival is considered by historians to be the primary catalyst for the spread of Pentecostalism in the 20th century.

When I received my supernatural language I didn’t feel anything. I didn’t hear anything. Just by faith I started speaking. The man told me to do it, I believed that he knew what he was talking about, so therefore, I could do it. I was like a child. I had like childlike faith. If they had said you could sing, you could walk on water, I would have walked on water. But then immediately after I started speaking my language the thought popped in my head, you’re making that up. And so I was kind of, James calls it, I was kind of double-minded as far as my supernatural language.
And at that time an orthodox Jewish rabbi became a believer in Jesus. And I was talking with him and a woman came up that was expecting a baby, and the doctor had said the baby was dead within her. And she walked up to me, and I’m a brand new believer, and she said, “Pray for my baby to come to life.” Now I didn’t know anything. That was a little too much for me. And so when I prayed for the baby to come back to life all I could think of doing was praying in my supernatural language, and I did it. And after she left, the rabbi said to me, “You were speaking in an ancient form of Hebrew. Where did you learn it?” I said, “Rabbi, I know Bar Mitzvah Hebrew. I know how to read it. I don’t speak too many words.” This rabbi said to me, “Sid, you prophesied that the child was with the God the Father and be at peace.” And I, Janie, I never doubted again.
