The argument that electronic devices, gadgets, and the allure of tools such as Facebook and Twitter, are causing our attention to dwindle and making us become more easily distracted is a common one.
Academics at Harvard and the University of Virginia began the study, entitled Just think: The challenges of the disengaged mind, by placing subjects into an empty room for between six and fifteen minutes, telling them to do nothing other than think to themselves.
When the allotted time was up the researchers asked the people if they had enjoyed the quiet time. Around 50 percent said they had not enjoyed it, and that they had found it difficult to concentrate on anything, finding that they could not focus on a particular subject without their mind wandering.
When the experiment was repeated, but within people’s own homes, the subjects noted that they enjoyed the process even less, with a third of them admitting that they had simply given up and checked their phones or started surfing the internet.
Taking the experiment to a new level, the researchers sat the subjects in a room with nothing other than a machine for administering small electrical shocks, once again instructing them to just have a think about things for a few minutes. Those involved had been subjected to the shock experience, and most said they loathed it and would actually pay money not to experience it a second time.
The results of the test were startling. Almost two thirds of the male subjects gave themselves one or more electrical shocks out of pure boredom, seemingly unable or unwilling to spend a short amount of time exploring their own minds.
According to the data, in a fifteen minute spell, one man administered 190 shocks to himself rather than just sit quietly with nothing to do. That data was removed from the final tally of results. Almost a quarter of the women involved also gave themselves a shock. On average, each person gave themselves a shock 1.47 times during the 15 minute period.
“Being alone with their own thoughts for 15 min[utes] was apparently so aversive that it drove many participants to self-administer an electric shock that they had earlier said they would pay to avoid,” the authors noted.
The research, made up of more than 11 separate studies involving over 100 people from all walks of life, found that age, education, income or the amount people use smartphones or social media had little bearing on the fact that most people now do not like thinking to themselves.
“The mind is designed to engage with the world,” said the lead researcher Tony Wilson. “Even when we are by ourselves, our focus usually is on the outside world. And without training in meditation or thought-control techniques, which still are difficult, most people would prefer to engage in external activities.”
According to the authors, the subjects “enjoyed doing mundane external activities much more” than thinking, leading to the conclusion that “most people seem to prefer to be doing something rather than nothing, even if that something is negative.”
The authors also noted that analytical and critical thinking defines us as humans and is an essential skill when deliberating the future or recalling the past, and that it underlies all of art and literature. The notion that a startlingly high number of individuals seemingly now cannot or will not engage in the practice will be disturbing to many.
“Research has shown that minds are difficult to control, however, and it may be particularly hard to steer our thoughts in pleasant directions and keep them there.” the study suggests. “This may be why many people seek to gain better control of their thoughts with meditation and other techniques, with clear benefits. Without such training, people prefer doing to thinking, even if what they are doing is so unpleasant that they would normally pay to avoid it. The untutored mind does not like to be alone with itself.”
Some have noted that the study recalls a quote from the French scientist and philosopher Blaise Pascal: “All human evil comes from a single cause, man’s inability to sit still in a room.”

Infant Baptism in the Early Fathers

I don’t believe the practice for infant baptism goes any farther back than the mid to late 2nd century. … As I understand it, children have no sin, hence no need of having sins taken away. Children can’t believe, adults can. …
Believer’s baptism is commanded, while a complete baptismal theology is not. In nearly ever case in Acts, as soon as a person came to faith in Christ, they were baptized \”immediately,\” apparently without a lengthy period of instruction, Bible correspondence course, Jewel Miller filmstrip (now on VHS and DVD) or a catechism class first. Infant baptism is neither commanded nor do we have examples of it. A person doesn’t have to have a through understanding of baptismal theology in order for it to be valid…. Baptismal candidates do have to be old enough to come to a personal decision to follow Christ: \”whoever believes and is baptized will be saved\”. . . An infant cannot make a mental assention to follow Christ. Basically, an infant cannot believe.

This thread was inspired by a comment in another thread that the baptism question could be settled if everyone would simply follow the historic teaching of the Church regarding infant baptism. So I looked up some references in the Fathers to infant baptism.

Those who believed are such as these: They are like innocent infants, in whose heart no wickedness enters and who do not know what is evil but always remain in innocence. Such as these will undoubtedly live in the kingdom of God because in no way did they defile the commandments of God but innocently remained in the same frame of mind all the days of their life. As many of you then who will continue and be as infants, with no wickedness, will be more honored than all others, for all infants are honored before God and are in the first rank before him. The collapse of Iraq into chaos does not surprise those of us who vehemently opposed G.W. Bush’s preemptive invasion of that Middle Eastern nation. Every time the U.S. militarily injects itself into unprovoked war, the countries we attack or bomb or invade ALWAYS plunge into calamity not long after.
Think of the toll of U.S. blood; think of the American deaths; think of the American servicemen maimed and injured for life; think of the 100,000-plus innocent deaths suffered by the Iraqi people. Think of the trillions of U.S. dollars spent; think of the displaced people in that country; think of the parentless children; think of the persecution of Christians and other people in Iraq now.
When will the American people tire of a U.S. foreign policy that assassinates thousands of innocent people all over the world? When will we tire of our State Department and CIA sticking its nose (meaning: using our U.S. military personnel as global cops or UN enforces or little more than public mercenaries for politicians’ private parochial agendas or as guards of privately-operated poppy fields in Afghanistan) into everybody’s sovereign affairs? When will Christians and conservatives stop jumping up and applauding every time some war-mongering politician like John McCain or Lindsey Graham starts beating war-drums?
These ceaseless wars of aggression have bankrupted America, not only economically, but also morally and spiritually. The blood that is dripping from the hands of America’s politicians (and, ultimately, the hands of the American people who allow their politicians to shed this blood in their name) is flowing like rivers all over the world. And, after it’s all said and done, the countries we attacked or invaded are WORSE OFF after our having done so.
So, pray tell, what was all of that sacrifice in Iraq and Afghanistan all about? What did it accomplish? The U.S. government sends our young men and women to fight unjust, morally-bankrupt wars, and then when they come home maimed and injured for life, they are treated like cattle in VA hospitals and clinics. So, how does all of that equate to “supporting the troops”?
If we truly “support the troops,” we won’t ask them to risk and give their lives for Big Business or for the United Nations or for politicians’ private agendas or for nation-building or for the benefit of some foreign country, who, when it’s all over hates our guts. If we “support the troops,” we would only ask them to risk and give their lives in the lawful, moral, and constitutional defense of American lives and property. Anything else is just Big Business/Big Government BS!
When will the American people have enough?

Do you ever have those days where you just want to sin? Sin looks delicious…. What do you do on a day like that?
Take the Blame
“Let no one say when he is tempted, ‘I am being tempted by God,’ for God cannot be tempted with evil, and he himself tempts no one. But each person is tempted when he is lured and enticed by his own desire. Then desire when it has conceived gives birth to sin, and sin when it is fully grown brings forth death” (James 1:13-15). Sin takes advantage of your sinful desires by promising satisfaction in the expression and fulfillment of those desires. Take the blame for wanting to sin. You want to sin because you are a sinner!
Look for Satan [Demons drive lust – editor]
“Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. Resist him [pray in the Spirit – editor], firm in your faith…” …
Resist the Temptation [We never have to sin – editor]
“No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it” (1 Corinthians 10:13). God promises that he will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you can bear, but that he will always provide a way of escape. He will provide a way, but you still need to take advantage of that way. Talk to God, ask him to make the way clear, and ask that he will give you grace to take it. Often resisting temptation is as simple as this: Don’t sin! Resolve that you will not sin and then follow resolve with stubborn obedience.
Rely on Patterns of Godliness
“Put to death therefore what is earthly in you … Put on then, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience … And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called…” (Colossians 3:5-15). The Christian life is a lifelong obedience of replacing ungodly patterns and habits with godly ones. We continually put off the old man and put on the new. …
Give Thanks
“Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you” (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18). If temptation is born out of sinful desire and false promises of satisfaction through what God forbids, the solution is to give thanks. Where temptation focuses on all you do not have, thanksgiving focuses on all you have graciously been given. When you are tempted to sin, thank God for his good gifts. When you have been delivered from the temptation to sin, give thanks for his enabling grace.

A Gift that Will Set Many Free!
There is another day, a day that will happen if you let it.
I want you to be free, free from anxiety. A death warrant is out for your souls. It will get you if you let it. You must pray.
Many die from unknown causes. They are weak from attacks from the Devil who never gives up—curse after curse—toward My people. Many have given in, unable to walk.
Tongues, I’ve given you the gift of tongues from My heart to you. It is a gift that will set many free if you use it regularly. It is for you to walk holy, set free in forgiveness while you pray.
The two work together. One attacks the Devil, while you release those who have hurt you deeply, wounded your soul.
Pray for them. You can focus; you don’t have to pray in general all the time. I will give you the gift of lifeas you pray.
This is how it works. Believe in your heart you are praying for one another; though, it will come from the Holy Ghost, the words you emit that I give you to speak. Focus on these people, and pray until your tongues cease. I will tell you who to pray for, but this isn’t necessary. You can pray for anyone that way.
Believe in your heart; direct your tongues. I will fill your mouth as you speak and set people free. I will pray perfectly, as you obey, giving your life to others through prayer.
Amazing things will result! Your heart will be glad!
Watch Me do it. Prove My point. Try it now. Focus on someone who needs prayer. Believe in your heart you are praying for them as you speak words from above that fill your mouth. Pray it out, and watch them change, for I will release them from anger and all kinds of oppressions as you pray. You will see it, and it will amaze your intelligence. Many will be set free. Do it now. This is an important point.
And as you pray, forgive, release them from all kinds of cares and bondages. The two work hand in hand. You forgive and I pray through your words that I give you.
This is freedom! Set them free. Do it now; why wait when you can have the chance to move mountains, havean impact on society that many will see and feel. Your heart will be glad. Many will walk holy.
Pray for your elders. Many are not in the ministry to give life. Many are sucking you dry. They need to give up the ghost of unforgiveness and get on the bandwagon of love.
The seal of approval, you all want it. You can have it now. Why wait? You can be in Me as we speak. You can know for sure that you are sons of God, that I am in you and you are in Me. You will feel it. Your heart will be glad, and you will pray.
I will take you to heights unknown. Miracles will take place all around you as you obey. Many will be glad that you took the step of faith to lead. When all looked hopeless, you got up from your seat and prayed.
Pray. Let your heart be glad, and don’t give up. Pray until your tongues stop. This is an amazing gift that has much power to change.
Anyone can pray in tongues. It is a gift for all who obey, all who call on Me for Mercy.
Drink deeply, and let it give you life, freeing you, while you relax and find peace in a home here on earth.
We are together. Let us pray.

Remember, of course that your government is financing the Islamic terrorists that are killing the Christians, certainly, raping the Christian women, killing the little Christian children.
They’ve killed over 162,000 Syrian civilians. And does anybody in America really care? Well, I do. And I hope many of our listeners do.
And I hope that you understand that God is just, and certainly His justice will not sleep forever. I think He’s going to bring judgment on America — not because what our good people are doing. It’s just because they’re so busy having the good life. They’re not involved in what’s going on.
And of course, they’ve changed the music. They’ve changed the message of our Christian churches.
And the Christian churches, rather than taking a stand against these terrible things that are happening, and the terrible atrocities that we are funding throughout the world, where they’re killing civilians. We’re funding it with our tax money. Why, of course, the church is silent, absolutely silent.

Though records of his education are scant, there is evidence that he received good education, with a thorough knowledge of Hebrew, Greek, and Latin. …
Differences of opinion arose when Felix Manz and Conrad Grebel in the group demanded the abolition of Mass, tithes, and interest. Zwingli hesitated the changes (although he agreed with them on the Biblical basis for the demand). …
..the true Reformation in Zurich was indefinitely postponed. When Easter 1525 came (two years after the city of Zurich became Protestant), the churches were still having mass–but without sacrifice. They were still having infant baptism, and the cup was still not being given to the congregation. In essence, they were practicing all the Roman Catholic trappings of religion with only a few modifications. …
At this time the other magisterial reformers, Luther and Calvin, shared the similar view on the matter regarding infant baptism with that of Zwingli. Later, the followers of Grebel and Manz, radical reformers and Anabaptist (Literally Anabaptist means “re-baptizers”), refer to the magisterium as “partial reformers”. To the radical reformers, the magisterium have inherent commitment to the state church, not fully to the Word of God.
A public disputation on the matter of infant baptism was eventually held with Zwingli on January 17, 1525. The city council declared Zwingli the victor. …
On March 7, 1526, the Zürich council had passed an edict that made adult baptism punishable by drowning. On January 5, 1527, Felix Manz became the first martyr of the edict, and the first Swiss Anabaptist to be martyred at the hands of reformers. While Manz only wanted “to bring together those who were willing to accept Christ, obey the Word, and follow in His footsteps, to unite with these by baptism, and to leave the rest in their present conviction”, Zwingli and the council accused him of obstinately refusing “to recede from his error and caprice”. Manz was taken out of the Wellenberg prison and led to the fish market there by the Limmat. There his death sentence was read. He was taken to the butcher shop, and at 3 PM forced into a boat. He praised God and preached to the crowd. A Reformed pastor went along, seeking to silence him, and hoping to give him an opportunity to recant. Manz’ brother and mother encouraged him to stand firm and suffer for Jesus’ sake. He was taken by the boat onto the River Limmat. At that time there was a small fishing hut located in the middle in the river. Felix Manz was placed on the platform of the hut, where his hands were shackled and pulled behind his knees and a pole was placed between them. He was thrown to his death in an icy baptism [called the third baptism? – editor] in the cold waters of Lake Zurich on the Limmat. His last cry was, “Into thy hands, O God, I commend my spirit.” His property went to the government of Zurich…

Liberty University decided that having Glenn Beck, a Mormon, give its convocation speech really isn’t all that big of a deal. In an email response sent from the office of Johnnie Moore, senior vice-president for communications and assistant to the president at Liberty, it was said that The Liberty University Convocation is not a church service, so having a mormon preaching mormon doctrines is completely ok! And according to Moore, Glenn Beck might be born again!
“By the way, many conservative evangelical leaders who are closer to Beck than me have told me that they believe Beck has had a born again experience recently.”
So what kind of message did Mr. Beck, who was said to have a born again experience recently, preach to the graduating class? One filled with old religious relics and Mormon doctrine. From an original William Tyndale Bible, to a pocket watch that supposedly was with Joseph Smith when he was killed. Beck painted the picture of Joseph Smith as a martyr of the faith, and one to look up to. Beck even referred to the unbiblical Mormon doctrine of The Council of Heaven, in which all pre-existing human souls are in heaven before being sent down to earth for a “divine purpose”. He then went on to state:
“I share your faith. I am from a different denomination. And a denomination that I’m sure can make many people at Liberty uncomfortable—I’m a Mormon—but I share your faith in the atonement of the Savior Jesus Christ.”
I’m sorry Mr. Beck, but the Jesus of the Bible is not the same Jesus of the Mormon faith. He is not the brother of Lucifer. He is not simply another god as your former prophet Bringham Young said, “How many Gods there are, I do not know. But there never was a time when there were not Gods…” (Journal of Discourses 7:333).

As Memorial Day is celebrated, is memory really what is encouraged or is it just an exercise in imagining? In other words, can we tell the truth on Memorial Day? While some truth is given voice on this solemn occasion, there are other important truths that are distorted in the telling or pushed from memory altogether. This is the case, not just in community Memorial Day services, but in churches that allow a Memorial Day focus to be introduced into worship. While I find the inclusion of this nationalist holiday in worship a wholly inappropriate, theologically unjustifiable practice, I find it doubly disturbing that from what I have seen churches do little to introduce much needed truth to the occasion.

Right remembering of the dead is a moral undertaking. It shows respect for the departed and displays sympathy for family members and friends left behind. But untruthful memorials serve other purposes, sometimes masking truth and glorifying that which should not be glorified. I think there are some questions we should ask as Memorial Day approaches.
(1) Can we remember without attributing reasons for war that aren’t in fact the real reasons? To celebrate Memorial Day by claiming soldiers died that we might be free is misleading. The real causes behind most wars have had little to do with protecting freedom of speech or assembly or worship. Major General Smedley Butler, USMC , declared, “Beautiful ideals were painted for our boys who were sent out to die.… No one mentioned to them, as they marched away, that their going and their dying would mean huge war profits.” Can we remember in a way that doesn’t falsify the causes of war, justify national self-righteousness, or turn Memorial Day into a recruiting tool to entice the young to enter the armed forces?
(2) Can we remember the innocent victims of war, even as we remember those who died while fighting? The majority of people who die in wars are not combatants. It is certainly not the case that sufficient care is taken by the military to avoid civilian deaths or that investigations of the deaths of the innocent are always undertaken. For those who believe otherwise, I highly recommend the viewing of the critically acclaimed, Academy Award nominated documentary Dirty Wars. Far too many people have suffered at the hands of the American military who have engaged in no armed hostilities. Yet they are maimed and killed, often on ill-founded suspicions. Remembering these men, women, and children can help us remember rightly on Memorial Day.

(3) Can we remember without the “us versus them” factor that is inevitable when we honor “our” war dead? Memorial Day was formerly known as Decoration Day and it served as an occasion to commemorate the Union and Confederate soldiers who died in the Civil War. By including the war dead on both sides of the conflict, the day was used to affirm unity rather than reinforce division. The sacrifice of the soldiers was acknowledged but one side was not glorified over the other. Can we remember those who died in war without reinforcing nationalism? Perhaps if all who died on battlefields were commemorated on Memorial Day –and not just Americans- the occasion might foster something greater than national unity: a global unity rooted in an acknowledgment of the tragedy of war.
Those Americans who suffered and died in war ought to be remembered. The grave difficulties endured by of those who faced armed conflict and lost their lives should be recognized. The soldiers’ best intentions in allowing themselves to be put in harm’s way –regardless of the actual reasons for war- deserve to be honored. But in the process, war itself should not be honored, the reasons for war whitewashed, nor should the suffering and the deaths of others be ignored. Rather “putting away falsehood, let all of us speak the truth to our neighbor” (Ephesians 4:25).

As a senior in high school (St. Croix Lutheran in W. St. Paul, MN) in the ’70s, I realized I couldn’t love people fully enough, and that I needed God’s help to do it. I didn’t know if Christianity was the right religion, because Lutheranism hadn’t done it for me, or from what I could see in those around me. So I decided to research every religion until I found the right one. I started by reading the Bible for myself, starting with the Book of Acts.
When I read this story about Paul and Silas being thrown into prison — being beaten, yet they still worshiped with their whole being, God filling them so fully — I realized they had it.
And I’ve never needed to look anywhere else, but have been frustrated by how sub-biblical Christianity mostly is today.
Anyway, these are highlights of this article, 4 Ways to Quiet Your Spirit Before God, by Steve Hill:
Remember when Paul and Silas were in prison? They were not only chained; they had also been severely beaten. Most likely their prison cell was infested with rats, and diseases were rampant.
I can imagine Paul looking at the burns on his hands from the chains and the cuts all over his body. He and Silas were hurting, and their lives were in jeopardy. But what did they do? Instead of getting depressed and complaining, they began to praise God.
I can just hear them lifting their voices to God in praise in the midst of their desperation, saying, “We worship You, Lord. We worship You, Jesus. Thank You for Your presence. Thank You for Your strength. We love You, Lord.”
It caught the attention of heaven, and God sent an earthquake to deliver them!

I must use the story of Jesus in the garden during His passion as the example of aligning ourselves to God’s will. …
But something else happened to Jesus in the garden after He prayed. Notice the next verse: “An angel from heaven appeared to him and strengthened him” (v. 43). My friend, this is so powerful. Always remember that after Jesus resigned Himself to God’s will, the angels strengthened Him.
And so it is with you. It’s after you resign yourself to God’s will that the angels will come and strengthen you!

Here is where so many miss it. They allow their present situation to dictate everything that’s going on around them. Instead, you must learn to relax and say, “This is a season, and it is going to pass. It’s going to bring the peaceable fruit of righteousness. Some good is going to come out of this.”
Isaiah 30:15 tells us why it’s so important to learn how to quiet our spirits: “In quietness and trust is your strength” (NIV). It doesn’t get much clearer than that.
Quieting your spirit will help you navigate through the storms of life no matter what you are going through and no matter what’s happening in the world around you. It’s an art and a spiritual discipline that will change your life and help set the course for your future as it has mine. Why not begin today?

A friend sent me this video in which a Dale M. Sides talks about praying in tongues TO BE FREE!!!!!!! I’ve prayed in tongues MANY THOUSANDS OF HOURS, since discovering in the early ’80s that my battles really were with evil spirits inside of me, and praying in tongues is 100% effective in driving them out. Then it’s easy to go COLD TURKEY to the lust demons (“Don’t give the Devil a place” — Paul in Ephesians), etc..
Actively forgiving others is another big key, but this one is hardly ever discussed. God gave us this gift because He doesn’t want us to be able to see the demons and fully understand what’s going on. We would freak if we knew — they’re that ugly — attached to us, driving sin!
Praying in tongues is awesome! And we can even pray for others this way, which I do every day.
I would have been dead many years ago had I not discovered the effectiveness of this gift and used it.
Paul said he prayed in tongues more than anyone else. Why was that? He was a big target; was James-3 cursed a lot! The more we stand up for God the more we need to pray.
Many need to pray just so they can even stand up for God and what is right, living holy until we see Jesus face to Face!
What will it take for the evangelicals to wake up and admit that these are all reverse-Christian wars?!!

Why Does Christian Persecution Get Worse In Every Country The U.S. “Liberates”?

When the U.S. military “liberates” a nation, shouldn’t it result in more liberty, freedom and peace for the people living there? Instead, we find just the opposite. In fact, in every single case since 9/11, when the U.S. military has “liberated” a nation it has resulted in the persecution of Christians in that country becoming much worse. In areas where we spent hundreds of billions of dollars and where thousands of precious American lives were sacrificed, churches are regularly being bombed, Christians are being brutally beheaded, and laws have been passed to make it illegal for a Muslim to convert to Christianity. If we were not even able to provide the most basic of liberties and freedoms to the people living in those nations, what in the world did we actually accomplish by “liberating” them?
Just look at what has happened in Afghanistan. We have been at war in Afghanistan for more than a dozen years, and yet things are so bad for Christians in that country at this point that there is not a single church left…
The supposedly “moderate” Karzai government installed by the U.S. upholds many of the draconian laws enforced by the Taliban—including the apostasy law, fiercely persecuting those who seek to convert to Christianity—and, in 2011, under U.S. auspices, it destroyed Afghanistan’s last Christian church.
We find a similar story in Iraq. It is estimated that before the invasion, there were up to 2 million Christians living in Iraq. Now that number is down to less than 450,000, and it is falling fast.
In fact, things are so dire for Iraq’s Christian community that some Iraqi Christian leaders are warning that Christians may soon become “extinct” in that nation….
It is estimated that the Iraq war cost U.S. taxpayers more than 2 trillion dollars. …
The Obama administration likes to brag about how it got rid of Qaddafi and “liberated” Libya, but now al-Qaeda is in control of much of the country and things are much worse for Christians than ever before…
Ever since U.S.-backed, al-Qaeda-linked terrorists overthrew Qaddafi, Christians—including Americans—have indeed suffered extreme persecution. Churches have been bombed; Christians have been tortured and killed (including for refusing to convert); and nuns have been threatened.
In Syria, the Obama administration is shamelessly allying with radical al-Qaeda jihadists in a desperate attempt to overthrow the Assad regime.
As these jihadists torture, behead and even crucify Christian believers, the mainstream media in the United States is virtually silent about it. …

FIRST JESUIT POPE
Jorge Mario Bergoglio a Jesuit Cardinal from Buenos Aires, Argentina has been selected as the new Pope of the Catholic Church. While the choice is celebrated with great joy in Latin America—the largest body of Catholics in the world, who have long felt slighted about the papal post until now—conservative Catholics are worried about the Jesuit’s Leftist political orientation. As Wikipedia said, “Bergoglio is the first Jesuit chosen to be pope. He is also the first pope from South America, the Americas, the New World, and the Southern Hemisphere. He is the first pope from outside Europe in 1,272 years.” This is a big thing to those who feel they have been under-represented for so long.
Having lived in Latin America several years, I’ve had the opportunity to observe and contend with Jesuit priests. The order is Leftist out of it’s “concern for the poor,” but their outreach is more revolutionary than charitable in action. Jesuit theologians concentrate on the “unequal distribution of wealth in the world” and overtly promote socialism and government redistribution in order to achieve “social justice.”
Because of its socialist orientation, many Jesuit priests have become Marxists and communists and have actively worked toward the violent overthrow of existing governments to achieve those ends. During the violent years of guerrilla activity when I was in Latin America, I experienced the Tupamaros in Uruguay and Argentina, and the Marxist guerrillas of El Salvador and Guatemala.
It seems that Jesuits and Maryknoll nuns in those days were always involved in both direct and indirect support of the revolutionaries. A couple of MaryKnoll nuns were killed supporting the communists, which engendered a huge outcry in the international press. No one would print facts about them hiding behind religious immunity in order to supply Marxist guerrillas.
This relates to the new Pope because he did not support the revolutionary arm of the Jesuits and colluded with the military juntas in Argentina during the “desaparecidos” years (the Disappeared Ones) of 1973-1986 and allowed two of the more militant priests under his supervision to be arrested. They were eventually tortured for information.
What this means to me is that Bergoglio is more of the idealogical Left than the radical and revolutionary Left, and that he opposed revolutionary overthrows of existing regimes. While this distinction is nowhere to be found in the English press, his selection generated some negative press in the Spanish and Latin American countries because of support of the “dictadura” which is considered a betrayal by the Left in Europe and Latin America.
Let me note parenthetically, that there was a reason for the regimes in Argentina and Uruguay to kidnap and kill revolutionaries during the Desaparecido years, while not convicted by the courts. The courts were filled with Marxist judges who would never convict their own in the years prior to the rise of “death squads.”
The death squads and other forms of vigilante justice came about as the only way to eliminate the Communists who were responsible for the constant street demonstrations (many violent), bombings and kidnappings for ransom in those countries. In Latin America, universities cannot be invaded by police without permission, so the revolutionaries would retreat to the universities after an attack and use them to cover for the making of bombs and stockpiling weapons.
When a country allows these kinds of safe havens for enemies of liberty, the military is forced to take independent action outside the law and fight a war in the shadows. That’s what happened in Latin America. I’m not saying that death squads were not overzealous or didn’t make mistakes, but it is the Leftists and Marxists in government and the courts protecting the enemy that drove them to it, as a matter of national preservation. Now, all those people have been replaced by yesmen and socialists, so there is little resistance to what’s coming again in Latin America.
Conservative Catholics are also reassured by the new pope’s support of long-held Catholic doctrines of opposition to gay marriage, the teaching that homosexuality is a sin, and the opposition to abortion, euthanasia and contraceptive use.
My concern is that as an ideological Leftist, he will not provide resistance to or change of the current Vatican direction in supporting globalism, as exemplified by remarks of the past two Popes. Ironically, were he more aligned with the revolutionary elements of the Jesuits, he probably would oppose globalism. The hard-core Left is just as opposed to globalist control as on the constitutional Right are—but not for the same reasons. They think it is mere “greedy capitalist” control, not the overarching conspiracy for power and control it really is.
I think Pope Frances will go along with the globalist trend because that matches his history of compromise with past regimes in Argentina. The Vatican needs a good house cleaning to purge it of the Leftist, globalist (money laundering and banking scandals), and homosexual influences, and sadly I don’t think Francis is going to do it. There are powerful partisan factions among the Cardinal selectors representing all these factions and he’s a compromise choice—not a changer.

It seems that many, today, erroneously think Jesus was a wimp, and even effeminate, perhaps because of how Hollywood has mostly portrayed him, and hasn’t included this scene in their movies, to my knowledge. “If we don’t see it on the screen it mustn’t have happened.”
Also, the strong words Jesus said to the churches in Revelation 2 and 3 doesn’t get much airplay, either — including on the ‘Christian’ channels. Jesus takes holiness within the church seriously!
