Johnny Cash: "The Man Comes Around" Lyrics

Opening Introduction (Spoken part)

And I heard as it were the noise of thunder
One of the four beasts saying ‘Come and see’, and I saw
And behold a white horse

Song

There’s a man going around taking names
And he decides who to free and who to blame
Everybody won’t be treated all the same
There’ll be a golden ladder reaching down
When the man comes around

The hairs on your arm will stand up
At the terror in each sip and in each sup
Will you partake of that last offered cup
Or disappear into the potter’s ground
When the man comes around

Hearing God’s Voice: Brief Phrases, Later Repeated

This begins a new category, called Hearing God’s Voice. I’d like to share some things I’ve learned through almost 30 years of personal experience as well as some things from others, so all of us can be better hearers of God, the Holy Spirit—so we can be ONE with each other in Christ!!! (John 17)

And please feel free to leave comments about your personal experiences or whatever. And I found out recently that you not only don’t need to use a real name in order to leave comments, but you don’t need to register a real email address either, if you prefer not to, for WordPress doesn’t check them. And I don’t care, myself. The main thing is to get the dialog going.

Even though Jesus said: “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me,” it’s surprising how few Christians really do hear God’s voice on a regular basis and follow Christ in this way.

Jesus told his disciples in John 14 that it’s better that He leaves them, because “the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things, and will remind you of all that I said to you.”

John wrote in 2 John: “As for you, the anointing which you received from him remains in you, and you don’t need for anyone to teach you. But as his anointing teaches you concerning all things, and is true, and is no lie, and even as it taught you, you will remain in him.”

One of the main reasons that people have trouble hearing God’s voice is that there is more than one voice speaking to the person. I’ll get into this more, later, but it’s crucial that we have no willful, obvious sins in our lives which gives the Devil a place, or more specifically: demons a right to be in our bodies speaking to us or giving us dreams. “Submit to God; resist the Devil and he’ll flee,” James says.

There should be only one voice besides our own thoughts that we actively originate.

Having said that, in addition to the other ways that God speaks to us verbally and visually, one thing I’ve noticed increasingly happening to me especially in the last few years is hearing short phrases that repeat themselves every so often—usually days apart. The wording is usually identical each time.

I think this is probably one aspect of the word of knowledge that Paul speaks of in 1 Cor. 12, for these words of knowledge are repeated over time. And they can also include names of people God wants us to pray for — which happens to me a lot — a subject I’ll have to discuss another time. It’s possible that my situation is unique, so I’m hearing these repeat, short phrases more than what is the norm, but I’m not sure. It would be interesting to hear from others their experiences.

Right now, in our community, it seems that the Devil has succeeded in dividing up the body of Christ pretty thoroughly. Jesus prayer that we would be ONE isn’t happening yet. And during this dry time, I think the Holy Spirit is trying to orchestrate unity by telling us specific things that will help point us in the right directions or even just encourage us in some specific ways, telling us some things that are happening.

And by the way, I’m more of an audio learner than a visual learner, so I hear God a lot more than I get pictures from Him. But others seem to see pictures more than they hear. We’re all diverse, and God is very creative in how He treats us all uniquely. But I suspect that many are experiencing what I am. And many are probably hearing these phrases but don’t recognize them as being from God, so hopefully this will help you.

Recently, I started writing down some of these phrases that I’m hearing more than even just a few times. So far, I’ve written down more than a dozen. And for me, these phrases are very short and to the point, varying from just two words (a verb and a noun) to about six words. And sometimes one phrase is directly followed by another, which seem to be related.

Now, what’s really cool about this way of God speaking is that I know I’m not making these phrases up. For I usually just hear them out of the blue, when I’m not thinking about this person or this subject that this phrase is addressing.

And when I hear this same exact phrase many times, the consistency factor leads me to believe that I can trust what I’m hearing—even if it’s a subject that I’m emotionally biased towards hearing a certain answer. For when we hear the same thing a number of times said the same way when we weren’t even thinking about this thing or this person, this is pretty good confirmation that we can count on what we’re hearing.

So this is a particularly helpful way to hear God’s perspective on for example a person or people we care about; though, communication has broken down for some reason. When God tells us the same things over and over over a long period of time, and they’re consistent with one another, this is solid guidance that we can count on, especially if it lines up with dreams we’ve had, and with longer, but unique words from God, and etc..

Does this make sense? Are some of you experiencing this too? If you have been hearing this kind of thing but didn’t know it was the Holy Spirit speaking, it may be helpful to write them down and keep track of them over time.

Also, a big key is to always sleep in total quiet if possible. I know of people who sleep with the radio or TV on, for example, which makes it a lot harder to hear God when we’re in this half-awake-half-sleeping state. This is often a great time to hear God’s voice, especially when you know you weren’t thinking about really anything, and all of a sudden you hear: “Psalm 20,” which I’ve heard many, many times, myself.

I forgot to say that God may give us the chapter or chapter and verse of scripture that are important for us to understand for whatever we’re going through, or whatever. If you hear a scripture reference that you know you weren’t thinking about on your own, please look it up, for God, the Holy Spirit, the maker of heaven and earth wants you to read this for some important reason.

And if we’re only perhaps half awake, it’s easy to think: “I’ll look it up later, after I fully wake up.” Or “I’ll write down what I believe God just told me later.” But it’s usually gone from our memory then. Jesus isn’t pushy; He speaks in a still, small voice. If we don’t want to pay attention to what He’s saying, it’s easy not to. Most don’t, but: “you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart.” (Jer. 19:13)

Just by doing simple things like sleeping without audio distractions, we can create an environment where we can more easily hear God when He does speak.

And by the way, I think this kind of hearing from God may be useful if we ever totally lose our rights in this country, which may happen sooner than we think. I’ve heard how some house churches in communist China don’t even announce meetings. The Holy Spirit tells each of them when the meetings will be, and then they show up, together. Cool! God is good!

I hope what I’ve written makes sense to you, and if you have any questions, suggestions, corrections or whatever—even criticisms, please comment below.

May we be ONE with each other in Christ!

We need each other to be the fully functioning body of Christ for we all have unique gifts – 1 Cor. 12. None of us are complete in ourselves. We need each other, y’all—hearing and obeying!

Thank you, and God bless you!

[WordPOWER!] Romans 12: Repay No One Evil for Evil — Don't Curse — Give Place to God's Wrath

We need to fully trust that God will deal with people totally fairly at the appropriate time.
It’s serious sin for us to step into His vengeance shoes that only fit Him, being all knowing and totally just!
It’s not our job to withhold forgiveness or to wish evil on anyone!

Romans 12:

14 Bless those who persecute you; bless, and don’t curse.

15 Rejoice with those who rejoice. Weep with those who weep. 16 Be of the same mind one toward another. Don’t set your mind on high things, but associate with the humble. Don’t be wise in your own conceits.

17 Repay no one evil for evil. Respect what is honorable in the sight of all men. 18 If it is possible, as much as it is up to you, be at peace with all men.

19 Don’t seek revenge yourselves, beloved, but give place to God’s wrath. For it is written, “Vengeance belongs to me; I will repay, says the Lord.”

20 Therefore “If your enemy is hungry, feed him. If he is thirsty, give him a drink; for in doing so, you will heap coals of fire on his head.”

21 Don’t be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

'Christian' Leaders James-3 Cursing People Example: Jesse

Here is my transcription of what Jesse Duplantis preached in a large meeting. This message, The Four Dimensions of Life, ©1998, is still available as video tape JV-66 at https://www.jdmstore.org/ps-275-3-the-four-dimensions-of-life.aspx.
This is an example of a preacher honestly admitting he’s wished evil on others while being a minister of the Gospel, and then admitting he was wrong in doing so. Jesse lays out the logic of his thinking, which I think is common among ‘Christians’ today, but most aren’t as candid as Jesse: “And the Lord said: ‘vengeance is mine.’ I said, ‘no, no, let it be mine, You take too long.”
This is a very serious form of reverse-Christianity, and is significant way that many people (including church leaders) control other people—through demonic power. God won’t answer prayers like these—Satan does.
This is absolutely a salvation issue. It’s no laughing matter. See: Who-Goes-To-Heaven Scriptures. We must be holy—and that’s where the joy is too!!!

“I attack my wife sometimes. People call it an ‘attack,’ but it’s not, cause me and Cathy have a great marriage…, but this woman has great vengeance. I was preaching not long ago, this beautiful woman. She knows I’m very funny about my hygiene. …

While I’m preaching under the anointing power of the Holy Ghost, Cathy looks at me and goes [Jesse points to his nose. He thought she was showing him that he had a ‘b______’ on his nose]…. Then my wife says…: ‘you don’t have a b______.’ [He gives a scowled glare.] And I thought of: ‘bless God, when I get off this platform….’

And the Lord said: ‘vengeance is mine.’ I said, ‘no, no, let it be mine, You take too long. You take too long.’ You know how God is, He’s so merciful, He’s going to save somebody you don’t like. You know He’s going to do it. He’s going to save your mother-in-law and you’re asking God to send her to hell.

My mother-in-law is a blessing right now, but boy, ooh ooh, Lord! I really thought, years ago, that if my mother-in-law went to hell, she’d have made it hell for the Devil. That was ooh ooh ooh! But that was my fault because I didn’t want her to go to heaven. I was wrong. I didn’t want her to go. I said, ‘if you bring that women, you’re going to ruin it for me,’ really. But I had to set my [‘life right,’ maybe? Words jumbled]. Now we have the greatest relationship because she wasn’t wrong, I was wrong.”

Many Curse Others From Their Hurts Deep Within

God’s Remedy for James-3 Cursing & Partysville in Today’s Church is James 4 — Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts. Let your laughter be turned to mourning… Humble yourselves and He will exalt you!

James 4 — Partysville and James-3 Curses’ Remedy:

1 Where do wars and fightings among you [speaking to Christians] come from? Don’t they come from your pleasures that war in your members? 2 You lust, and don’t have. You kill [James just got done talking about ‘Christians’ cursing Christians, which is like killing — anyone who hates his brother is a murderer], covet, and can’t obtain. You fight and make war [James showed in chapter 3 that ‘Christians’ were cursing Christians from their hearts (v. 14). Text below].

You don’t have, because you don’t ask. 3 You ask, and don’t receive [opposite of 1 John 5:14-15], because you ask with wrong motives, so that you may spend it for your pleasures.

4 You adulterers and adulteresses [adultery = lusting in the heart (Mt. 5)], don’t you know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Whoever therefore wants to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God. 5 Or do you think that the Scripture says in vain, “The Spirit who lives in us yearns jealously“?

6 But he gives more grace. Therefore it says, “God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble.”

7 Be subject therefore to God. But resist the devil, and he will flee from you. 8 Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded. 9 Lament, mourn, and weep. Let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy [partysville joy, not fruit-of-the-Holy-Spirit joy] to gloom.

10 Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he will exalt you.

James 1 helps us understand James 3

1 James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, to the twelve tribes which are in the Dispersion: Greetings. 2 Count it all joy, my brothers, when you fall into various temptations, 3 knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance. 4 Let endurance have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.

5 But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach; and it will be given to him. 6 But let him ask in faith, without any doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea, driven by the wind and tossed. 7 For let that man not think that he will receive anything from the Lord. 8 He is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.

9 But let the brother in humble circumstances glory in his high position; 10 and the rich, in that he is made humble, because like the flower in the grass, he will pass away. 11 For the sun arises with the scorching wind, and withers the grass, and the flower in it falls, and the beauty of its appearance perishes. So also will the rich man fade away in his pursuits.

12 Blessed is the man who endures temptation, for when he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life, which the Lord promised to those who love him. 13 Let no man say when he is tempted, “I am tempted by God,” for God can’t be tempted by evil, and he himself tempts no one. 14 But each one is tempted, when he is drawn away by his own lust, and enticed. 15 Then the lust, when it has conceived, bears sin; and the sin, when it is full grown, brings forth death. 16 Don’t be deceived, my beloved brothers. 17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom can be no variation, nor turning shadow. 18 Of his own will he brought us forth by the word of truth, that we should be a kind of first fruits of his creatures.

19 So, then, my beloved brothers, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, and slow to anger; 20 for the anger of man doesn’t produce the righteousness of God. 21 Therefore, putting away all filthiness and overflowing of wickedness, receive with humility the implanted word, which is able to save your souls. 22 But be doers of the word, and not only hearers, deluding your own selves. 23 For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man looking at his natural face in a mirror; 24 for he sees himself, and goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was. 25 But he who looks into the perfect law of freedom, and continues, not being a hearer who forgets, but a doer of the work, this man will be blessed in what he does.

26 If anyone among you thinks himself to be religious while he doesn’t bridle his tongue, but deceives his heart, this man’s religion is worthless. 27 Pure religion and undefiled before our God and Father is this: to visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained by the world.

* * *

James 3 — Blessing and Cursing?

1 Let not many of you be teachers, my brothers, knowing that we will receive heavier judgment. 2 For in many things we all stumble. If anyone doesn’t stumble in word, the same is a perfect man, able to bridle the whole body also. 3 Indeed, we put bits into the horses’ mouths so that they may obey us, and we guide their whole body. 4 Behold, the ships also, though they are so big and are driven by fierce winds, are yet guided by a very small rudder, wherever the pilot desires. 5 So the tongue is also a little member, and boasts great things. See how a small fire can spread to a large forest! 6 And the tongue is a fire. The world of iniquity among our members is the tongue, which defiles the whole body, and sets on fire the course of nature, and is set on fire by Gehenna. 7 For every kind of animal, bird, creeping thing, and thing in the sea, is tamed, and has been tamed by mankind. 8 But nobody can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison. 9 With it we bless our God and Father, and with it we curse men, who are made in the image of God. 10 Out of the same mouth comes forth blessing and cursing. My brothers, these things ought not to be so. 11 Does a spring send out from the same opening fresh and bitter water? 12 Can a fig tree, my brothers, yield olives, or a vine figs? Thus no spring yields both salt water and fresh water.

Wisdom from Above

13 Who is wise and understanding among you? Let him show by his good conduct that his deeds are done in gentleness of wisdom. 14 But if you have bitter jealousy and selfish ambition in your heart, don’t boast and don’t lie against the truth. 15 This wisdom is not that which comes down from above, but is earthly, sensual, and demonic. 16 For where jealousy and selfish ambition are, there is confusion and every evil deed. 17 But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceful, gentle, reasonable, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy. 18 Now the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace.

Stuart Shepard of Focus on the Family, one of America’s leading evangelical groups, was shown in a video filmed at Denver’s Invesco Field, where 75,000 are expected to cheer Mr Obama on Aug 28, asking Christians to pray for “torrential” rain.

I’m talking ‘umbrella-ain’t-going-to-help-you rain,” the former pastor and television meteorologist said. He explained on the video: “I’m still pro life, and I’m still in favour of marriage as being between one man and one woman. And I would like the next president who will select justices for the next Supreme Court to agree.”

Mr Shepard, director of digital media at Focus Action, the political arm of Focus on the Family, insisted the video was supposed to be “mildly humorous”. But it was hastily removed by Focus on the Family after complaints from at least a dozen of its members. “If people took it seriously, we regret it,” said Tom Minnery, a spokesman.

In an interview with KOAA television Mr Shepard said: “Sure it’s boyish humour perhaps to wish for something like that. But at the same time it’s something people feel very strongly about. They’re concerned about where he would take the nation.”

John Morse, a Democratic state senator in Denver and an Obama supporter said: “Is praying for rain wrong? No, it’s not wrong, it’s soulless.”

[WordPOWER!] Matthew 13: Withhold Nothing to Obtain the Kingdom of Heaven

Matthew 13:

36 Then Jesus sent the multitudes away, and went into the house. His disciples came to him, saying, “Explain to us the parable of the darnel weeds of the field.” 37 He answered them, “He who sows the good seed is the Son of Man, 38 the field is the world; and the good seed, these are the children of the Kingdom; and the darnel weeds are the children of the evil one. 39 The enemy who sowed them is the devil. The harvest is the end of the age, and the reapers are angels. 40 As therefore the darnel weeds are gathered up and burned with fire; so will it be at the end of this age. 41 The Son of Man will send out his angels, and they will gather out of his Kingdom all things that cause stumbling, and those who do iniquity, 42 and will cast them into the furnace of fire. There will be weeping and the gnashing of teeth. 43 Then the righteous will shine forth like the sun in the Kingdom of their Father. He who has ears to hear, let him hear.

44 “Again, the Kingdom of Heaven is like a treasure hidden in the field, which a man found, and hid. In his joy, he goes and sells all that he has, and buys that field.

45 “Again, the Kingdom of Heaven is like a man who is a merchant seeking fine pearls, 46 who having found one pearl of great price, he went and sold all that he had, and bought it.

47 “Again, the Kingdom of Heaven is like a dragnet, that was cast into the sea, and gathered some fish of every kind, 48 which, when it was filled, they drew up on the beach. They sat down, and gathered the good into containers, but the bad they threw away. 49 So will it be in the end of the world. The angels will come forth, and separate the wicked from among the righteous, 50 and will cast them into the furnace of fire. There will be the weeping and the gnashing of teeth.”

Jesus: “I am GOOD. There will be NO DISAPPOINTMENTS in Me”

FreedomQuotes: Suspicion

If you hold your peace I will fight for you

From: Sid Roth’s It’s Supernatural, August 4-10, 2008

Sid Roth: My guest, David Jones, taught for six months on something that was so significant that the most unusual miracles started erupting….

We are going to find out what he taught because I believe what he taught is mandatory for miracles to take place.

[…]

Sid: God taught you how to walk in something, a word that most people don’t understand, don’t even comprehend, but it’s so important to God that if you want to be elevated to the next level with God, if you want to be used in this mighty outpouring of God’s Spirit, you must understand what David Jones spoke about for six months, the subject is humility. How did God start to teach you about this with a co-worker?

David: Well we got hired and at that time I was doing red iron steel work where we had big wrenches and tightening up bolts in red iron beams and so we were up about three stories and his name was Gar and he asked me what was my name and I told him and so as a couple of days went by he said man get your so and so over here and help me. And I was like shocked and I walked over to him and I said, you know I was always taught to respect the man, I respect you. I don’t want to hear what you got to say let’s get to work. And then I was trying to pray Sid, and then I had just gotten saved and I said Lord I don’t want to pray anymore I am just going to hit this man with this wrench. I said if you say anything to me and then the boss came up and broke us up and then lunchtime came and so I took my little New Testament out and I began…

Sid: You were really going to hit him in the face with the wrench?

David: Oh with all my might and with all my strength as hard as I could.

Sid: That’s not very humble.

David: No, that’s not humble at all.

Sid: Okay go ahead.

David: This is sure enough true. And so I got my New Testament out and the Lord took me to a verse that my grandma taught me, the first Bible verse was Hebrews 12:14, “Follow peace with all men, holiness without which no man shall see the Lord.” And I began to cry Sid, and I began to pray, I said God I don’t want to hurt people anymore, I was taught to kill in the Marines, I don’t want to hurt anyone anymore, I said please help me.

Now Sid, first I wanted to hit him with the wrenches, but now I’m praying for him, okay, all of a sudden the boss didn’t allow us to work together, he separated me. I’m down sorting out bolts, here he came right to me, all of a sudden the power of God picks me up and I look him in the face and I say Gar it is better for a millstone to be tied about your neck and cast into the depths of the sea than to mess with one of God’s little ones. I said that’s all I’m going to say. He said you done said enough. Then he walked off, storming off and I was like oh God have mercy.

The next day when he came to work all one side of his face was swollen up, his eye was closed in and he came straight to me. He said look at my face man, look what happened. I said what happened to you? He said I don’t know, I just woke up this morning and my face was like this and he said, and it constantly hurts. And he walked away. And I said Lord have mercy, have mercy. I didn’t say unhuh, that’s what you get messing with a Christian, no, no, no, no, I didn’t rejoice, I said Lord have mercy, touch him Lord, heal him and the Lord healed him.

From that day forth Sid, that man treated me like I was somebody and God showed me, he said son if you always hold your peace I will fight for you. The reason why a lot of Christians don’t see my mighty hand move in my life they don’t hold their peace. It is conditional; if you hold your peace I will fight for you.

William Seymour, 1909: Next Revival Will Come in About 100 Years – It's Due! — Another revival like unto AZUSA Street, only GREATER, would come again, only this time it wouldn’t be in one place, it would be ALL OVER THE WORLD!!!

From: Sid Roth’s It’s Supernatural, July 14-20, 2008

My guest as a young man met elderly people
who were involved in the biggest move of miracles
in the history of America
.
It was called the Azusa Street Revival.
He tells me that he met some of the people and heard
first hand what occurred, stories such as ears
that did not exist popping back into place,
arms that did not exist coming out and growing,
these are called creative miracles.

Did you know that the Azusa Street Revival
that happened in the early 1900’s was the
first integrated church in America
?
God picked a one-eyed black man to lead the greatest
move of God’s Spirit in miracles I believe since the first
coming of the Messiah….

Sid: Now William Seymour prophesied about the next
revival that will come
, tell me about that.

Tommy: He prophesied that in about a hundred years,
he did this in 1909
, that there would be a…

Sid: So about a hundred years would be 2009?

Tommy: Yes, that would be about, before or after?

Sid: About, okay.

Tommy: He said another revival like unto Azusa Street
only greater would come again
, only this time it wouldn’t be
in one place, it would be all over the world….

[WordPOWER!] Better to Be a Poor Man than a Liar — Getting Treasure by Lying is a Fleeting Vapor, the Pursuit of Death

From: Stand to Reason — Principles of Successful Business from Proverbs

DISHONESTY OFFENDS GOD:

( 11:1 ) A false balance* is an abomination to the Lord, but a just weight is His delight.

( 20:23 ) Differing weights are an abomination to the Lord, and a false scale is not good.

( 16:11 ) A just balance and scales belong to the Lord, all the weights of the bag are his concern.

( 20:10 ) Differing weights and differing measures, both of them are abominable to the Lord.

DISHONESTY is BAD BUSINESS:

( 10:2a ) Ill-gotten gains do not profit.

( 13:11a ) Wealth obtained by fraud dwindles.

( 15:27a ) He who profits illicitly troubles his own house.

( 19:22b ) It is better to be a poor man than a liar….

( 20:17 ) Bread obtained by falsehood is sweet to a man, but afterward his mouth will be filled with gravel.

( 21:6 ) The getting of treasure by a lying tongue is a fleeting vapor, the pursuit of death.

( 28:16b ) He who hates unjust gain will prolong his days.

__________

From: RickCreighton.com — Dishonesty – Proverbs 11v1

The LORD abhors dishonest scales, but accurate weights are his delight. The basic picture here is pretty straightforward. What you’ve got is a shopkeeper who uses a set of scales those old-fashioned scales. You know the balance-type ones, where you put the weights on one side and the food – or whatever you’re selling – on the other. And let’s say our shopkeeper is an Israelite shopkeeper, so he’s selling figs or olives or something. What he’ll do is he’ll charge you a certain amount per kilo. It’s just the same as supermarkets today – fruit and veg is still usually priced in pounds per kilo. Things haven’t changed much. Well, it might have been denariuses per shekel back then, but the principle is still the same.

Now if he’s a dodgy shopkeeper what he’ll do is he’ll make his set of weights too light. He’ll have these big weights that say 1 Kilo on them, but he’ll have made them slightly hollow or something. So you ask for kilo of figs, and you pay for a kilo of figs, and he pops the 1 Kilo weight on the scales, and it looks like he weighs out a kilo of figs – everything balances nicely. But actually you’re only getting 700 grams of figs. And, the proverb says, God hates it. He really hates it.

Now this is small-time dishonesty that’s being talked about here. It’s not international bank robbery or grand larceny. This is small, day to day stuff. Cheating someone when you do business with them. Certainly God hates big, huge, horrible crimes. But he hates little, small dishonesties too. In fact, the word “hates” almost isn’t strong enough – that’s why the NIV has the word “abhors” – it means absolutely and utterly hates. God hates dishonesty of any sort, big or small.

Martin Luther: Sin Boldly — "No sin can separate us from Him, even if we were to kill or commit adultery thousands of times each day"

Both texts are from Scroll Publishing: Let Your Sins Be Strong: A Letter From Luther to Melanchthon Letter no. 99, 1 August 1521, From the Wartburg (Segment) Translated by Erika Bullmann Flores from: _Dr. Martin Luther’s Saemmtliche Schriften_ Dr, Johannes Georg Walch, Ed. (St. Louis: Concordia Publishing House, N.D.), Vol. 15,cols. 2585-2590.
Luther clearly believed in once-saved-always-saved false doctrine (also called eternal security) to the fullest extent! This is so sad. I was raised a Lutheran. No wonder why the church had no life.
What Luther actually said was edited out of the texts the pastors read in seminary, which is shown here. But nevertheless, Luther said it.
This is the opposite of what the Bible teaches.
This is the same paragraph as the one which follows, but this is from the Weimar Edition (first published in 1883), which apparently ellipsed out Luther’s most extreme remarks.

13.”If you are a preacher of Grace, then preach a true, not a fictitious grace; if grace is true, you must bear a true and not a fictitious sin. God does not save people who are only fictitious sinners. Be a sinner and sin boldly, but believe and rejoice in Christ even more boldly. For he is victorious over sin, death, and the world. As long as we are here we have to sin. This life in not the dwelling place of righteousness but, as Peter says, we look for a new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells. . . . Pray boldly-you too are a mighty sinner.” (Weimar ed. vol. 2, p. 371; Letters I, “Luther’s Works,” American Ed., Vol 48. p. 281- 282)

Here is the non-sanitized version. Here, Luther teaches once-saved-always-saved to the max! And this is the main problem with America today. Luther started as so deathly afraid of God that he embraced a doctrine that he knew at least some of the NT writers didn’t even teach, so he would never have to fear God again, even when boldly sinning—until he saw Him face to face—when it was too late (unless he totally repented before he died—which I don’t know of an record of).

13. If you are a preacher of mercy, do not preach an imaginary but the true mercy. If the mercy is true, you must therefore bear the true, not an imaginary sin. God does not save those who are only imaginary sinners. Be a sinner, and let your sins be strong, but let your trust in Christ be stronger, and rejoice in Christ who is the victor over sin, death, and the world. We will commit sins while we are here, for this life is not a place where justice resides. We, however, says Peter (2. Peter 3:13) are looking forward to a new heaven and a new earth where justice will reign. It suffices that through God’s glory we have recognized the Lamb who takes away the sin of the world. No sin can separate us from Him, even if we were to kill or commit adultery thousands of times each day. Do you think such an exalted Lamb paid merely a small price with a meager sacrifice for our sins? Pray hard for you are quite a sinner.

This is the exact opposite of what Paul taught in Romans 6:1-2 and elsewhere.

What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? May it never be! We who died to sin, how could we live in it any longer?

Let’s be free!

Martin Luther’s Subordinate Bible Books: Hebrews, James, Jude & Revelation

History shows us that Martin Luther never did figure out what the Bible really teaches about salvation. By throwing out the baby with the bathwater, he ended up believing and teaching a treacherously false doctrine that is still leading millions astray, today.

We desperately need a reformation of The Reformation.
I transcribed this years ago from: Here I Stand: A Life of Martin Luther, by Roland H. Bainton, 1978, p. 259-261.

Luther read the New Testament in light of the Pauline message that the just shall live by faith and not by works of the law. That this doctrine is not enunciated through the New Testament with equal emphasis and appears to be denied in the book of James did not escape Luther, and in his preface to the New Testament of 1522 James was stigmatized as “an epistle of straw.” Once Luther remarked that he would give his doctor’s beret to anyone who could reconcile James and Paul. Yet he did not venture to reject James from the canon of Scripture [not true – editor], and on occasion earned his own beret by effecting a reconciliation. “Faith,” he wrote, “is a living, restless thing. It cannot be inoperative. We are not saved by works: but if there be no works there must be something amiss with faith.” This was simply to put a Pauline construction on James. The conclusion was a hierarchy of values within the New Testament. First Luther would place the Gospel of John, then the Pauline Epistles and First Peter, after them the three other Gospels, and in a subordinate place Hebrews, James, Jude, and Revelation.

I reconcile James and Paul in Who-Goes-To-Heaven Scriptures — Narrow is the Way.

Luther also couldn’t even reconcile Paul with Paul—the earlier, introductory chapters of Paul’s letters with the straightforward meat Paul introduces later in the texts.

What Luther did is what theologians call having “a canon within the Canon”—”a group of books or a body of texts within the Bible to which great authority or dominance is to be ascribed.” Most Bible teachers, today, don’t subordinate entire books of the Bible, but rather, they subordinate significant parts of most of the books of the New Testament in order to continue teaching false doctrines as fact.

Luther also misunderstood the distinction between works of the law (old covenant—which Paul warned against in Gal. 3, for example) and the necessity of being led by the Spirit or abiding in Christ (new covenant). Jesus didn’t replace the works of the law with nothing. Salvation isn’t “faith plus nothing,” as Luther taught. In fact, Jesus didn’t do away with the law (Mt. 5:17-20). Now we are to be led by the Holy Spirit—God in us—given at Pentecost. Now we are equipped/enabled/graced to fulfill the law’s requirements in a purer, deeper way which supercedes the works of the law. Paul said in Romans 8 [Gal. 5 is somewhat similar]:

(4) that the ordinance of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. (13) For if you live after the flesh, you must die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live. (14) For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are children of God.

What the Bible teaches about salvation is very clear when we accept the entire canon of Scripture—not subordinating anything.

Martin Luther Cursed from His Heart Catholic Leaders, ‘Every Day’

From: The Catholic Encyclopedia, Vol. IX, 1910, Martin Luther.

It was while he [Martin Luther] was in these sinister moods that his friends usually were in expectant dread that the flood of his exhaustless abuse and unparalleled scurrility would dash itself against the papacy, Church, and monasticism. “I will curse and scold the scoundrels until I go to my grave, and never shall they hear a civil word from me. I will toll them to their graves with thunder and lightning. For I am unable to pray without at the same time cursing. If I am prompted to say: ‘hallowed be Thy name’, I must add: ‘cursed, damned, outraged be the name of the papists’. If I am prompted to say: ‘Thy Kingdom come’, I must perforce add: ‘cursed, damned, destroyed must be the papacy.’ Indeed I pray thus orally every day and in my heart without intermission” (Sammtl. W., XXV, 108). Need we be surprised that one of his old admirers, whose name figured with his on the original Bull of excommunication, concludes that Luther “with his shameless, ungovernable tongue, must have lapsed into insanity or been inspired by the Evil Spirit” (Pirkheimer, ap. *Döllinger, “Die Reformation”, Ratisbon, I, 1846-48).

Martin Luther Found Some Freedom Through Prayer & Resisting the Devil

No doubt, Martin Luther was greatly James-3 cursed for standing up to the abuses and false doctrines of the church of his day. His boldness impressed me when I watched the movie about his life in grade school.
Here, he talks about his struggle to get free of demonic temptation; though, sadly, he ended up in life cursing people back!
James 4:7 — “Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.”

“Just when you feel that temptation is strongest
and you are most unprepared to pray,
then go to a place where you are alone,
and pray the Lord’s Prayer
and whatever you can possibly say
against Satan and his temptation.
Then you will feel that the temptation becomes less severe
and that Satan takes flight.”

Ed Young: God Designed Sex in Heaven — Augustine & Luther Followed Plato into Error

Transcribed by Jeff Fenske from Ed Young’s Sexual Revolution Series message: Heaven on Earth.
Sex begins in heaven. God thought it up. He’s the designer. Our God is pro-sex.”
In the act of marriage, you have a life uniting act in a life uniting covenant. That’s where we can really be free and discover the depth and the mystery of sex.”
Among other scriptures, Ed quotes Proverbs 5:15-23:

Drink water out of your own cistern, running water out of your own well. Should your springs overflow in the streets, streams of water in the public squares? Let them be for yourself alone, not for strangers with you. Let your spring be blessed. Rejoice in the wife of your youth. A loving doe and a graceful deer– let her breasts satisfy you at all times. Be captivated always with her love. For why should you, my son, be captivated with an adulteress? Why embrace the bosom of another? For the ways of man are before the eyes of Yahweh. He examines all his paths. The evil deeds of the wicked ensnare him. The cords of his sin hold him firmly. He will die for lack of instruction. In the greatness of his folly, he will go astray.

Plato said, ‘the soul is good; the body is bad.’ Well, enter fourth century theologian Augustine…. Augustine had some sexual problems and issues prior to becoming a Christian. He took some Plato into his theological writings.
Then later on, enter the great reformer, Martin Luther. Martin Luther also drug in some anti-sex stuff from Augustine and Plato, and he wrote about it. Thus you have the church perpetuating it that ‘sex is bad.’ And that’s why you have the church going like: ‘whoa, sex is just a result of the fall; sex is just like for making babies.’ …
Augustine’s thoughts on sex were not biblical. They weren’t. Plato, of course, was not biblical. And Martin Luther, when it came to sex was not biblical. God has given us sex prior to the fall, prior to sin. It’s a good thing because it’s a God thing.”
“As a believer, everything we do, say, touch and feel should be an act of worship.” “God, I yield everything to you, even my sexuality.”
“If we think right, we’re going to feel right.”

Pastor Baldwin: The Religious Right is AWOL From the Real War

From: News with Views

the real battlefield today is not abortion. It is not homosexual marriage. It is not Social Security. It is not al Qaeda. It is not taxes. It is not inflation. It is not electing conservatives. It is not posting the Ten Commandments. It is not even the high cost of gasoline. …

The battlefield where the devil has amassed his greatest forces and is thrusting his deadliest armies is the surrender of our national sovereignty and independence, and the creation of global government. And it is our own political and corporate leaders that are facilitating this chicanery. Furthermore, by refusing to oppose this surrender, our Christian leaders are complicit as well.

Obviously, the surrender of our independence has been ongoing for some time. However, under Bill Clinton and especially under G.W. Bush, the pace has quickened exponentially.

Doubtless, the biggest reason President Bush has more aggressively hastened the pace of America’s merger into supranational government is because he enjoys widespread support among evangelical Christians. Absent opposition from Christian leaders, G.W. Bush has virtually had a free hand. And please know this: before Bush was a Republican, before he was a “conservative,” before he was a Christian, he was and is a globalist, as was his father and grandfather before him.

Because our national Christian leaders are content to revel in the lap of political cronyism with President Bush (and the Republican Party), they have abandoned their positions as watchmen on the wall. Instead of being watchmen and heralds of truth, they have become political lackeys and toadies for the GOP.

[…]

With the attention of the American people (and Congress) focused on the Middle East, Bush and his cabal of elitists are moving forward with plans to surrender our national independence and merge our country into a regional government. Friends, this is the real war; this is the real battlefield.

When America loses its sovereignty and independence, we will lose all of our fundamental liberties. The Constitution will be meaningless and irrelevant. The Bill of Rights will be moot. The principles of religious liberty, the right to life, and the Christian foundation of our country will be passé. And, as I said at the outset of this column, our national leaders, especially our Christian leaders, are totally absent from this battlefield.

Does the American flag belong in church? Our allegiance belongs to God, not state power

From: The Christian Science Monitor

American Christians seem as devoted to their government as Ruth was to Naomi. But should they be? Do either the flag or the Pledge have any place in the Lord’s house? …

The trouble doesn’t lie with Christianity but with power. The two have always been at odds. Political power is a synonym for “physical force,” for bending people to government’s will regardless of their inclinations, interests, or welfare. But Christianity is love – power’s antidote. Anyone who sincerely follows Jesus Christ will never try to compel others – because he didn’t. Jesus sought to persuade by word and example, loving men so much that he let them judge for themselves the truth of his teachings. …

And many support a war in Iraq that has killed tens of thousands and put civilians – including Iraq’s brave but tiny Christian community – in great tribulation. Sadly, I have yet to hear any American church pray for Iraqis as they endure the persecution, poverty, and pain this war has inflicted. But congregants who are Americans first and Christians second often ask God to bless our troops on Sundays.

If they think about it at all, most believers probably see the flag and Pledge as tokens of affection for their country. In reality, both symbolize an infatuation with government. Churches hope to change circumstances through political force when Jesus called us to change hearts and minds with his message. We cheat ourselves, trusting the state’s inferior and transitory power instead of the Almighty.

Not for these only do I pray, but for those also who believe in me through their word, that they may all be one; even as you, Father, are in me, and I in you, that they also may be one in us; that the world may believe that you sent me. THE GLORY which you have given me, I have given to them; that they may be one, even as we are one; I in them, and you in me, that they may be perfected into one; that the world may know that you sent me, and loved them, even as you loved me. (John 17:20-23)

Millions, if not billions of people, right now, are not compelled to become Christians because of the bitter taste that professing Christians are leaving in their stomachs. In fact, many see more love in some non-Christians—which is exceedingly sad, and needs to be remedied.
People have a right to see the real thing—real Christianity. “That they may be perfected into ONE,” Jesus said. That the world may know.”
When ONE happens in just one group, and then it spreads like wildfire, then if people choose to reject it, so be it. At least they had a chance to really see what they were rejecting—the beauty of what real, Biblical Christianity is!
For a number of years, for some reason, I’ve had a particular burden for Pete Townshend to see ONE happen before he leaves this earth. I think his heart would leap when he sees the real thing, which is probably what he’s been yearning for all his life. When Pete Townshend sees it (whether he becomes a Christian or not), then I think we’ve done our job, then the world will know. Everyone has a right to see the real thing before they die.
Many think Jesus’ words in Matthew 24 are about people just hearing a message, that once all of the unreached peoples hear the Gospel story then the end will come. I’ve been thinking lately that it’s more about once the world sees ONE happen, then the world will know and then the end will come. Consider Matthew 24:11-14 in light of John 17:

Many false prophets will arise, and will lead many astray [which is happening by the droves through most pastors and priests today]. Because iniquity will be multiplied, the love of many will grow cold. But he who endures to the end, the same will be saved. This Good News of the Kingdom will be preached in the whole world for a testimony to all the nations, and then the end will come.

What is being preached by most ‘Christians’ today isn’t really a testimony to the nations. Jesus said in John 17 that the world will know when ONE happens, not just when people hear the Gospel story.
I think Pete Townshend is a good example of a deep thinking, intuitive person who isn’t fooled by hypocrites, who profess Christianity but aren’t even going to heaven, themselves, because they’re not abiding in Christ. Pete will only be impressed by the real thing—which needs to pass the Pete Townshend Smell Test.
I think Jesus call for us to be ONE in John 17 is the testimony to all the nations in Matthew 24. And we can bring this about, by His grace/enablement, as we abide in Him, together!
Then the world will know, and then the end will come.
Freedom!
May we be ONE!

Effects of the WELSH REVIVAL 1904-05: Whole communities were radically changed FROM DEPRAVITY TO GLORIOUS GOODNESS. The CRIME RATE dropped, often to nothing. THE POLICE had little more to do than supervise the coming and going of the people to the chapel prayer meetings. THE UNDERGROUND MINES echoed with the sounds of PRAYER and HYMNS, instead of nasty jokes and gossip. People who had fallen out BECAME FRIENDS AGAIN!!!!!!!

John Michael Talbot: Psalm 42—Like the Deer

Notice the God-beam lit Redwoods reaching towards the heavens at 0:50.

YES!!!

Like the deer that yearns for running streams,
so my soul is yearning for God.

My soul is thirsting for God, the God of my life;
when can I see the face of God?

Today the number one concern world-wide is security. Everyone worries about safety. Who will ensure our safety and provide the refuge we seek?

These selected quotes (in the video) from the psalm are set to music with the same title by John Michael Talbot.

“Because he has set his love upon Me, therefore will I deliver him;
I will set him securely on high, because he knows and understands My Name [has a personal knowledge of My mercy, love and kindness- trusts and relies on Me, knowing I will never forsake him, no, never].

He shall call upon Me, and I will answer him;
I will be with him in trouble;
I will deliver him and honour him.

With long life I will satisfy him
And show him My Salvation.” Psalm 91:14-16 AMP
